The halflings of Marai are an eccentric and reclusive people with no interest in joining the Commonwealth. Strongly spiritual, the Korobokuru lead a spartan but peaceful existence in a small strip of islands to the far Coreëast of the continent. They lead heavily aquatic lifestyles and are themselves more biologically amphibious than "basal" halflings, with strong innate cold resistance and body structures better suited for swimming, like webbed feet and hands.
They have cautious and infrequent trade relationships with the nearby Nikata and Iname clans, whose coexistence with nature is at least more relatable to the littlefolk than the busy modernism of the Petal Cities. They get along especially well with the equally remote, non-Commonwealth Rakuyōsei Eladrin or "Birch Elves", who populate stretches of the Coreward shores further west.
