Estrié
Estrié are an ancient, rare and poorly-understood group of sapient Duskscape creatures. They are aspected to dreams and to nightmares, but they're much cleverer and more purposeful than mere spharai or qlippoth.
Estrié feed on the dreams, memories, emotions of Waking Materians, but not the way a strix gulps down a pang of fear. They use convoluted and esoteric ways to "prepare" their victims in ways loosely analogous to a chef preparing a fine meal. They all possess the magical means to cross the Veil and prepare their meals directly, often spending centuries at a time in the Material realm. It is for this reason they are the most knowledgeable about Waking societies amongst Duskscape sapients, and often act as scholars or consultants in Near & Far Umbral societies.
Estrié may sometimes decide to create mortal beings, tied to their essence in a similar way the faetouched are connected to the Shimmering Jungles. These beings are called dhampir.
Description
Estrié, like other paraphysical Duskscape creatures, are shapeshifters and can take many forms. However their preference on the Waking side of the Veil is the appearance of their host species. One consistent feature that they seem to have no control over (or prefer to maintain for esoteric reasons) are their glowing, red, hypnotizing eyes.Notable Estrié
Vierix Oleander was Lichlord, Colonial God and the final Supreme Pontifex of the Order of the Sanguine Vow, a small league of estrié who infiltrated the government of the great New Rozsan Empire.
The Eshuma are Estrié who, rather than prey on the people of the Firstsong Islands, help protect from a curse of permanent hauntings, flung upon the archipelago by the Lichlords in their death throes.
Carnage Millie was great pirate and treasure hunter in the First Age, and a known Estrié.Estrié
