Myrkul
When Volserd was born, so was the Shadowed Mire. The duality of siblings Urth and Myrkull created the cycle of life known to most mortals. Urth brings life to new kin of the mortals, while Myrkul gathers the souls of the dead to recycle them back into the power that fuels the Aether.
With war comes death, and with death comes Myrkul's power. In order to sustain his reach over Volserd via his champions, Myrkul must power the Soul Cairne with the Souls of the Damned, churning them back into pure Aether energy in the process. This energy flows through Myrkul's veins, allowing Pekin's madness to seep deep into the dark king's mind. This created his lust for power, thus fueling his war against Urth for the souls of mortals. This is what caused Urth to give her life to fuel a ritual to seal off Volserd from the Aether Byways.
Before his corruption and Urth's sacrifice, he fathered Tempus and Tyr, leading to eternal strife between the immortal beings.
Myrkul, in absorbing the power from Pekin during his corruption, has grown strong enough to bolster 4 Champions:
