Make your own Character!

Hey! do you want to help me write my weird story? Do you like making characters? GREAT!   So what if you looked though this world, found a few things you like, and made a character from it? If you left your idea in the comments below it would help me get inspired and might be fun at that. Who knows? Maybe the idea will be so good I can use it in my story! (With permission of course.)   Before any creating can be done, however, I would recommend you read a few articles from the world so you can get a feeling for what kind of weird place I'm making here. A few important things would be:   1) The species of most characters should probably be Anthro-RodentiaMantis, or Avidians, but I'm open to strange suggestions. A friend made up a race of owls that primarily lived in orbit and I decided to make it canon.   2) Any character with psionic powers should have a good reason for why they have their powers and how they have or haven't been detected and inducted by the conflux yet.   To be clear, I'm NOT planning an RPG campaign at this time, I just like to see people do creative things with other people's work and I could use some inspiration for my story. That said, if you want to make a character for DnD 5e, I have some further suggestions. If not, you can just skip to the bottom.   DnD 5e advice
  • In the articles about Anthro-Rodentia and Mantis, there are stat blocks with instructions on how to make characters of those races. I could probably use some feedback to make them balanced.
  • Wizards and other arcane casters don't exist in this setting. However, if you still want to make an intelligence-based caster, Artificers work well.
  • The only being with the power to have Clerics is The Forgotten God. Clerics under him will usually have the life domain abilities, but the patron has the power to make clerics of basically any domain if the need arises. Just keep in mind that divine casters are rare enough and their powers are sometimes subtle enough that many people doubt their existence entirely.
  • Paladins can be flavored as either psions with a flair for weaponry or as servants of The Forgotten God.
  • Warlocks will usually have an Elder Spirit as a patron, though there are potentially innumerable other powerful beings that live in the void that would make good cantidates. As such, the Great Old One or Hexblade patron options will usually be the best options. Just a little side warning here: if you choose Pact of the Chain, I have no idea what you can choose as your familiar. Get creative with your DM, maybe? an Echo might do it.
  • Sorcerers are what you pick if you want to play a plain, vanilla psion. I reccomend a divine sorcerous origin so you can pick healing spells if you want them. Also, I have a couple of spells in the Psionics category you could choose from if you want just a little extra flavor.
  • Druids, as they appear in 5e, don't exist in this setting. I have no way to explain away animal transformation and no indigenous animals other than small birds for them to morph into. Your best bet for a similar character would either be an Infusion-based sorcerer or a ranger. Speaking of which...
  • Rangers can be flavored as psions with a deep connection to nature and a flair for weaponry. It might enhance the flavor if you restrict them to wooden weapons like a druid would be. Once again, there are no indigenous life forms for your animal companions though. Maybe get creative with a robot or a creature from the void? Also, a Horizon Walker might be fun if you want to banish creatures to the void whence they came.
  • Fighters, Barbarians, and basically anyone who wields a weapon can exchange bows or crossbows for plasma rifles of equal strength and exchange arrows or crossbow bolts for plasma cartidges. If the DM allows it, make the plasma weapons deal fire damage instead of their regular damage. You could also exchange your melee weapons for electric versions that deal lightning damage at the DM's discretion. Barbarians might get shortchanged here, though, because they only have resistance to physical damage and it may have some more unpredictable effects down the line having to do with damage resistances.
  • Monks, Particularly of the Way of the Four Elements, can be flavored as psions very easily.
  • Spellcasters in general probably shouldn't pick some of the more inherently magical-seeming spells like Polymorph or Rope trick. Then again, maybe your artificer has developed the technology to create a pocket dimension on the end of a chain and transmogrify into a bunny. Raising zombies could be awkward, but maybe it's just a genetically engineered disease or nanite technology? It all depends on how you spin it, I guess. Also, you could probably just ignore the need for material components for Sorcerers and other psionic builds. Take note that any plane-shifting spells can only take you to the void and back; there aren't any other major planes in canon right now.
If you want any advice specifically for systems other than 5e, I've never played so I got nothing. Is this a weird article to write? Probably, but this is a weird world with a weird story, so have fun with it!

I'll be thinking on this!   And I love the idea of a page inviting others into this. I have a place set up on my website, but hadn't detailed it on WA yet. You've inspired me to do so!

I look forward to your ideas!

I'll have to venture back here once I know a thing or two more about the world. It's an intriguing concept. Never thought about it but its a lovely way to share ones world and populate it with diverse characters.
