Elder Spirits

Sometimes, from deep in the void come voices or dreams that call upon worthy beings to act in their name. Those who answer are guided to do great feats; slay monsters, raid ancient complexes, or sometimes even conquer kingdoms.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Before they ascended, the Elder Spirits created wonders of technology never seen again in the entire history of Veron. They built vast cities interconnected by tubes that would temporarily transform their occupants into light to near-instantaneously take them anywhere. They built vast mining machines that could strip continents in hours. They built terraforming engines that could modulate the tilt and orbit of planets to their liking, as well as plant grasslands and forests overnight. Perhaps the greatest of their technological achievements was to form the entire planet of Veron in orbit around a star from scratch.   Most of these wonders, however, have been lost to time. Those technologies that have been rediscovered are so far beyond the current scientific understanding of Veron's indigenous species that reverse-engineering anything useful has been deemed impossible.

History

The Elder Spirits are the original creators of Veron. They were once physical beings, but some time before the the Old Wars they ascended to metaphysical forms in order to watch the world they had created from a distance that would not interfere with the natural order of the planet.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Many civilizations worship the Elder Spirits as gods. As such, an encounter with an Elder Spirit is usually met with wonder and fear. Physical encounters are rare, though. More often an Elder Spirit will appear to someone in a dream and communicate it's wishes that way.
