Echo

Once believed to be ghosts of powerful psions twisted into evil forms, echoes are ethereal hunters and scavengers that feed on latent psionic  energy.

Basic Information

Anatomy

When echoes are visible, they appear as an amorphous wisp with threatening eyes and a jagged, toothy mouth made entirely of green and black mist.

Biological Traits

Echoes are an oddity in modern science. They seem to exist only partially within the physical world, spending most of their time in some other place or form. Whether they simply transform into pure energy when the disappear or slip into another dimension, no scientist has been able to determine. In fact, any number of things could be happening.

Ecology and Habitats

Echoes are one of the very few species of creatures who are natural inhabitants of the void, a realm or state of matter that science knows little about as we can only observe them when they manifest in the physical world. Those hoping to encounter an echo would do best to observe the grave sites of powerful psions and the regions round about, as an echo will only become physical if it has the chance to feed.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Echoes feed off of latent Psionic energy, whether they collect it from dead psions or extract it from living creatures. An echo will spend most of it's time roaming the void searching for a suitable meal. When it senses a psion in the physical world, it will manifest into it's physical form and feast on the ambient energy. When encountering a living psion, an Echo will sometimes attempt to extract living energy directly from him or her, a process which is usually very painful for the psion and, if completed, fatal. Thankfully most echoes will get sufficient nourishment early on in the process that they can be forcefully persuaded to look somewhere else for their continued sustenance.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Echoes percieve the world around them only through Telepathy. As such, they only have a dim understanding of anything physical, instead relying upon their sense of Psionics to navigate the world.

Author's Notes

I would really like to know how an RPG encounter with these things would go because they would be rather unique in that they would only be able to target casters and they can disappear at will. For the most accurate representation, make them annoyingly hard to hit and disappear to another location whenever you miss an attack.
