Milam Mountains
Geography
The Milam Mountains are an impassable mountain range which runs in a slight curve line around the southern side of the Hedan Basin in the centre of Vellikka.
The Mountains are made of a red slate-like stone, which forms steep inclines and sudden deadly drops. The peaks are snow-capped all year round.
It is the starting point for many of the rivers of Vellikka, the largest being:
- River Splitt
- River Dank
- River Larsk
- River Dorill
- River Zaran
- River Conas
- River Miar
Ecosystem
The foothills of the Milam Mountains are verdant and populated by lots of flora and fauna. Those on the south side are mostly grassland, while those on the north side are more heavily wooded.
Once you get out of the foothills, the undergrowth becomes more sparse, with only the toughest plants surviving beyond that point. Soon it is nothing but craggy rocks, sharp and unforgiving, until it becomes enveloped in ice and snow.
Localized Phenomena
On the south east side of the mountains, just as the grassland gives way to the ruddy rocks, there are several strange grey and red structures built into the side of the cliffs. Not dissimilar from the Place of Spirits in Abna, these geometric spaces are seen as spiritual refuges, and have also been the source of technology.
Tourism
It is said that there are spirits in the foothills of the Milam Mountains. People who live locally take day trips into the quieter areas of these hills to talk to the spirits, or listen to them or find solace in their presence.
