Dukedom of Gothia

The Dukedom of Gothia rules over the lands known as Gothia. The Dukedom represents a group of cities, towns and villages united under a single Grand Duke.

Structure

The Dukedom is divided into four provinces:
  • The Forests of Rhone in the east
  • The Riverlands of Draguil in the centre
  • The Gulf of Malroux in the south
  • The Plains of Liris in the west
  • Each province is ruled by a Duke.    Each settlement in a province is ruled by a lord or an ealdorman, depending on the size of the settlement who serves under their local Duke.   The Duke of each province serves under the Grand Duke who rules from the capital of Draguilforte.   Rulership of a settlement is determined by the Duke of a region, or by the Grand Duke. In recent history, the Grand Duke has granted parcels of land to those who served in commanding roles during the Invasion of Hyberia, such as; Ulthor Hawksend and Garth Redwood.    The Duke of each province is, in most cases, determined by a line of succession from the noble families of each region.   The Grand Duke, similar to the Dukes, is chosen from members of the royal family in Draguilforte by the Dukes of each region. Following the death of a Grand Duke, their children will each put forth their claim for the title of Grand Duke. A contest of succession will be completed over a period of six months, after which the new Grand Duke will be crowned.

    History

The Dukedom of Gothia was formed 300 years before the start of the story. The rulers of the Gothian settlements decided to unite their forces to protect themselves from attack from foreign powers.
