Tiefling

Appearance

Tieflings come in a variety of skin tones, ranging from purple, blue, green, and primarily red. Tieflings have a tail, and horns upon their forehead. Their eye colors come in all myriads, often glossed over a single color, or with glowing pupils. Their hair is varied as their possible eye colors, ranging into any possibility, though often tending towards darker tones. Tieflings born from a parent race that is not Tiefling will bear some similarities to their parent race, adopting some of their qualities.

Biology

Any baby born, from any humanoid parents, to any humanoid race, has a chance to be born a Tiefling. In this ironic manner, they are similar to Aasimar. This type of Tiefling emergence is rare, with an estimated 1 out of every 200,000 children being born a Tiefling, a more common occurrence than Aasimar births, yet still rare. Having Tiefling parents does appear to create a Tiefling child, and due to this there have been small Tiefling communities propagating in the few places where they are accepted.   Tieflings are able to reproduce in the same manner as their parent race, and typically live twice as long as their parent race's lifespan.

History

Tieflings have suffered a long history of prejudice and persecution. Their fiendish appearance has naturally lent itself to revulsion. The revulsion ostracizes Tieflings, leading them down dark paths in order to survive, and these dark paths complete a self-fulfilling prophecy, confirming the fears of those who reject them. Tieflings have always struggled, yet they found their power during the 2nd Epoch. For unknown reasons, Tieflings were amongst the most powerful Sorcerers, having the capability to wield their power more precisely and with more force than almost any other Sorcerer. This lead some Tieflings to rise to power within Darnesia, and maintain control over the region for a few centuries before they were driven out. The Great Purge of the 3rd Epoch brought about the fall of Tieflings once more, and the subsequent rise of fervent Dichotism only worsened the situation.

Dichotism has been the longstanding bane of all Tieflings ever since its existence, since they look similar to the fiendish depictions of the Fallen gods of the religion. Most Dichotists believe Tieflings to be inherently evil, touched by the Fallen, and destined to do evil. Tieflings can only be found in countries that remain firmly non-Dichotist. Epsia has become a bastion for many Tieflings in recent years, and the Naiathel Empire's atheistic standpoint has made it a haven for them as well.

Some Tieflings manage to survive in special accommodations, such as the Paladinus Luminis of the Darnesian Sultanate, an order of Dichotist Tiefling Paladins who worship Xanthilia, the Mother Sun, and are often sent to hunt their own kind.
