Jinn

Jinn, called Genies in certain dialects, are powerful, highly intelligent elemental beings. Though they are severely rare, there is just enough evidence to prove their existence. By nature they seem to be illusive, and avoid revealing themselves to the public eye. Encounters with Jinn have been written about through all eras of history, and they exist in the folklore of many cultures, most prominently Darneshi and Hantzu. The existence of Genasi is believed to have some connection to the power of Jinn, yet the details of their connection are still unknown. Some theories believe that at the moment of near-death, when one typically transforms into a Genasi, a Jinn saves your life.

There are high variances in lore regarding Jinn. Some say there are only 4 Jinn in the world, one for each element, while others say there are many Jinn with various levels of power. Some legends even say that Jinn are not limited to the 4 elements, but to concepts and emotions (such as a Jinn of dreams, memory, fear, ect.). In the vast majority of lores, Jinn are categorized into 4 types, which reflect both their elemental inclination and their spiritual disposition. Efreeti are the Jinn of fire, Naiatheni the Jinn of water, Djinni the Jinn of air, and Dao the Jinn of earth. The name given to the Naiathel derives itself from Naiatheni, though there is nothing to suggest their race has any relation to Jinn.

Accounts of their appearance are wildly different throughout the world, some describing them as swirling elemental power, akin to the average Elemental. Others describe them as nearly identical to humans, with miniscule physical features that hint at an elemental flair. The most common description has their upper body as identical to that of a humanoid, with their lower half a tapering wisp of elemental energy. It is generally agreed that they are tall beings, 10 ft. on average, with the ability to expand or shrink their size at will. In many legends, they are able to soar through the air and pass through matter at will. They are described as intense, deeply embodying the spiritual attributes typical for their element.

Jinn are holy beings to followers of Masoritanism, who believe them to be guardians of the worlds elemental balance. Masoritanists revere Genasi for similar reasons, believing them to be the spawn of Jinn (either directly, or in a spiritual sense).

Most tales involving Genies involve curses, blessings, and careful dealings in exchanges of servitude. Jinn are said to be lawful, unable to lie or go back on their word, making any verbal agreement with a Jinn binding. Though they cannot lie, Jinn are known for being terribly clever at dancing their words around the truth. Jinn are often willing to exchange gifts of power in return for servitude, or give their servitude in exchange for a gift.
