Genasi

Appearance

Genasi appearance deeply varies between their subraces, though they retain the general size and shape of their birth race. Genasi take on physical characteristics of their subrace's elemental association.

Biology

Genasi are not born of any racial genealogy. Instead, a Genasi is created in a process termed their Awakening. An Awakening results after an intense, elementally related experience. This most often takes the form of violent forces, forces that ought to have killed the one experiencing the Awakening. This ranges from being struck by lightning, being buried in an avalanche, drowning in water, and so forth. Instead of perishing, the person transforms, becoming a Genasi. Masoritanism believes that Genasi are the result of a Genie saving the soul of a mortal who would have died at the hands of the elemental forces they rule. The name "Genasi" originates from the ancient Masoritanist name for such beings. The Logicmasters have a different theory regarding Awakenings, speculating that an instinctive reaction, born of fear, fuels a powerful burst of Abrastract in which a victim wields the forces trying to harm them, adopting those forces into themselves as a means to survive the event.

Genasi are quite rare, with 1 of every 300,000 humanoids currently living as a Genasi. Genasi reproduce in the same manner as their birth race. Having one of more Genasi parents does not create Genasi offspring. Offspring with a Genasi parent are born in accordance with that Genasi's birth race.

History

Genasi have no shared history or culture. Their nature has often tied them to Masoritanism, and many Genasi choose to live in Masoritanist communities, who revere them as blessed and chosen. Their rarity, and the nature of their awakening, means they are born isolated and scattered from others of their kind. The only instances of Genasi communities are found in Masoritanist monasteries, where multiple Genasi may have gathered. Genasi awakenings are noted in historic texts as far back as the oldest stone tablets the Logicmasters possess, having existed alongside the other races throughout known history since before the 1st Epoch: Rule of Dragons.
