COMPLETED Hunt: Phase Spiders
Thufir Galen is seeking poison sacks from Phase Spiders, who may have made a borrow in the Black Hills. Aethlin and Ostreleia gather information on the Phase spiders from Clive Celaden who owns a bestiary containing the animal.
The party being split after escorting David Moore or Completing Demon Bomber Quest meet up in Agribor which they set off from until Araz, Aethilin, and Mess get capture by an Orc band and taken to their chief.
Having been captured the 3 members of the scouting party are brought before Shakub the Storm Chaser who having been in dire conflict with a faction of warriors from the sea is fearful for the safety of his tribe. They were supposed to leave to the Spring hunting grounds almost a month ago now and they fear that without these hunts there won't be enough food to last them the winter. However it's not the Orc way to turn down from a fight and hope that the party can help them resolve this conflict. Gorbag the Wise convinces Shakub to use these adventurers to sue for peace on the Orc's behalf.
After agreeing they are brought to see some of their prisoners, 3 amazonian women are held together within a small cage. Haven Koda speaking for them, relays to the party here that her people are trying to flee civil war that has been raging on her home island of Themiscyra. The party believes they may be able to help the Orcs and the Amazons but in return they need access to the Black Hills to find their quarry. Not only is Shakub willing to allow them access but will provide them with a scout to guide them to their nest.
They take Haven to guide them to the Amazon camp and vouch for them in order to get an audience with the Chief Mother, Sylvia Prideslayer. They try and convince the Chief Mother to flee from these Orcs. It doesn't sit well with her, to be driven from these fertile plains by bloodthirsty savage orcs, only to become dependent on a people she does not know. Something the party says sparks an idea within Sylvia who needs time to deliberate. The party is sent off for a time, but eventually calls Araz back to the Command tent to inquire further on Orc motivations and desires. He not growing up with the Orcs has no real idea. He is given two packets and asked to challenge Shakub the Storm Chaser for her, one packet being affirmation of the acceptance and the other in the negative.
They take the challenge back to Shakub who bristles with anticipation for such a combat. Dawn of the following day the two encampments are emptied and they stand together on the plains to watch this fight. Shakub the Storm Chaser clearly has the advantage over Sylvia Prideslayer in terms of strength but she uses her speed and technique to make up for any difference in strength. As the fight starts Sylvia takes the clear advantage as for the first few moments Shakub is unable to even get a hit in. Though eventually after intentionally taking a blow he is able to grapple with Sylvia and begins putting his strength to his advantage. Several tense moments pass until it finally appears the final advantage has been taken and Sylvia Prideslayer will lose her life on this field of combat when suddenly Shakub the Storm Chaser loses consciousness leaving both combatants lying still on the ground.
Upon inspection both remain alive if not severally injured. After healing is applied they sit in discussion concerning the outcome of the conflict. To the satisfaction of both sides they are allowed to keep their respective areas the Sovereign Plains for the Amazons and the Black Hills for the Orcs. After the deliberations are concluded Shakub the Storm Chaser honors his agreement and assigns Spathu Thunderfoot to guide the party.
The party arrives at the Weaver's den just over a day's journey from the Orc camp. They brazenly enter this hostile environment and begin looting the first room before truly understanding what was all around them. The floors and walls were covered with a translucent, undulating, blue mesh of webs. Within the first rooms they find a coach which had been moved inside. Soon they find themselves face to face with a white and blue spider the size of a large dog. This creature pops in and out of existence meaning it's strikes were unerring and without warning. Ostreliea was the first to experience one's venom being paralyzed and incapacitated after just one bite. Retaliation was measured out swiftly by Mess who met to a similar fate only moments later as another lunged from the ether to bite him. It seemed at last like they would have a respite when suddenly from the dark tunnel leading out to the cave a horse sized spider formed sinking teeth into Araz who fortunately was blessed by the Moon Goddess and survived. Just before the creature disappeared it took a bite into Pious who only just survived. The party stood in wait, eyes surveying any distortion for their moment to attack and just as it appeared a well placed shot from Aethelin and a shock from Araz downed the fell creature.
Extracting the venom sac was not too difficult for Aethelin though as she handled some venom to create an antivenom she suffered it's effects though not to the same extent as Mess or Ostreliea who eventually came back around. The journey back to Rubi'Sarha was without much incident.
Returning to Greensward however ended up being more than the Tieflings bargained for and they didn't return. It turns out in the wake of the escaped Demon Bomber Count Demorant Hawthorne cordoned of Wharfside and imprisoned many Tiefling within the city. The military escalation as far as the party could determine has been sustained now for two weeks, even though the jail break was almost a month ago (22 days).
They eventually returned to Thufir Galen to present the venom sacs and then collected their payment from the Adventurer's Lodge.
