Worldember 2021

WorldEmber summary

I did it!
I wrote 10k words.
I commissioned some amazing art from talented artist and made some solid worldbuilding.
I hung out in the discord channel and got some real inspiration from other amazing worldbuilders.
It did look very grim to reach 10k words though, when I got covid last week of the month, but managed to channel that into a prophecy from a mad prophet. It's not readable, which is the point.

Goal

My goal during WorldEmber 2021 is to get 10k words because my players are moving over to my world and I want it to feel solid. This will be my first real Worldember, I think I might have done something previous years, but nothing solid like this.
My meta focus points are religious influence, government presence and magic influence, and I want to expand on these, maybe by fleshing out the pantheon, the organized religion, the state and function of the empire of Ionia. Other ideas to flesh out is natural laws and the cosmology.

Backup Prompts

I haveTJ's Worldbuilding planner as inspiration and stepping stone for this and have planned 12 articles that I will focus on to begin. However, having a few prompts as backup in case I get stuck or don't feel like writing more on those subjects is probably not a bad idea! This will be a mix ofTillerzs, TJ's and Spooktober, possibly something more.

1. Write about a group of people who are not particularly welcoming to strangers.

2. Write about a group in your world that tries to keep strange things hidden to avoid panic and horror. Did they always succeed? If not, what happened?

3. Write about a character who lives with a disability in your world. What's their favourite hobby and what do they do for a living?

4. In your world, write about a document or piece of information that is so ancient or odd that no one can make any sense of it anymore.

5. Write about a devastating force of nature in your world. How do people deal with it?

6. Describe a famous criminal organization and the unlawful acts they commit in your world.

7. Describe a military unit in your world that is famous for its unique ranged weapon.

8. Describe how two opposing political parties fight for control of an area in your world. What policies do they support and what methods do they use to gain power?

9. Write about a medical unit that's part of a military group in your world. What are their roles and how do they operate out in the field?

10. Write about the details of a modern urban legend in a region of your world. How long ago did it happen and what elements of truth are there?

Soft goals

My main focus this December will be to write 10k words. But if I have time I have a few secondary goals I can do if I feel stuck, unmotivated or for any reason really.
