Evorian Ethnicity in Uto Daeg | World Anvil

Evorian

Evorian.png

From the varied and small country of Evoria, the Evorians were a ethnicity of humans that developed when the Great Migration occurred in the late Era of Mortals. In fact, the sudden proliferation of humans stunned the other species who had to make space now, ushering in the Era of Humanity. The humans that cropped from the Deadlands and Brin Balo migrated together forming a distinctive ethnicity, the Evorian.

Accents

Evorian accents and dialects vary based on the region. All of the dialects are based on pronunciation, not voice tone or pitch, with exception of Nilesian Hook. For example, the Hlee Terse is a stuttering or terse-sounding speech whereas the Dalth'it Drawl is a drawn out speech.
Hlee Terse
This dialect is the most peculiar Evorian dialect to those who are not used to it. The syllables are spoken in staccato and sometimes through clenched teeth. This can give the impression the person is tense or, more appropriately, tersely speaking. It was popularized by Sylvain Custlan Gilaxsten during the Clannish Wars in Hlee and his surrounding areas.
Dalthit Drawl
Originating in the Elysia region in the farmland and deep tracts, this dialect gain notoriety as the "lazy speak" because it draws out sounds, or omits them entirely. For example, the common -it ending of cities in Evoria is replaced with -yit. So Dalth'it sounds like "Dalthyit". The name of the city hasn't changed formally, mainly due to Hlee's intervention. The regions of southwestern Tambuxia, northern Reryit, and southern Nilesian Court often have this dialect as well.
Rural Step
Also called "singysongy" this dialect affects the majority of the country' rural regions. East Heath, eastern Tambuxia, Corridor, and Ridgegate speak in this way. The speakers pitch rises and falls in a sort of sing-song manner. No one knows where this dialect came from, but it promotes such a happy air many feel like dancing — or stepping — when they speak or hear it.
Nilesian Hook
Also called "Nilesian Buzz," the off-beat people of the Nilesian Court hold strange and ancient traditions and customs. One such is their dialect which sounds equally slurred or as if speech were difficult. They tend to buzz certain constants like s or z. The last syllable of words and names is the stressed syllable.
