The Frozen Heights

The Frozen Heights, is one of the most well explored mountain ranges in Mekrashov. Located in the interior north of the Tzardom, these mountains hold back the woodland that is the Grolin Wood. This means that the northern parts aren't populated which has led to various strange creatures taking up residence. This, in turn, has prevented even more people from living here. The mountains here are jagged, having formed partially as the result of a meteor strike early in Mekrashov's history. Later tectonic shifts raised the lower part of the continent slightly, elevating the Frozen Heights further. This makes the chain quite short, but very tall. Despite its latitude, the tallest peaks are covered in snow all year.

Geography

While there are many possible paths across the mountains, none of them are very safe, and most choose to travel around them. Slopes are steep and precarious. Many of the paths have steps or bridges carved into them, but wise travellers are wary of how any structures might be broken, trapped, or defended. Or all of the above.
The Grolin Wood to the east stretches up on the closest mountains but stops soon after that.

Hills & Peaks

• Cloudanchor Peak: the tallest peak of the Frozen Heights.
• Mount Wojtek, the second-most southern of the range's peaks, that was named after a legendary werebear.

Landmarks

• Cobbledygook's mine: a successful coal mine owned by a Zookish business consortium.
• Moaning Cave: the labyrinthine caverns that served as the headquarters for the notorious The Black Bloods
• Dread Deep caves: the abandoned underground lair of the late Zolthur that is now inhabited by the mysterious Demorax.
