College of the Realms
Sphere: Academic
The College of the Realms study the Astral, Mælstrom and Aetheric Realms as explorers and archaeologists, anthropologists and historians. They are based in Compit Hall.
The College has always had close links to House Ignis due to a shared interest in exploration. It is not unusual for a House Ignis mining operation to give the College Realms a brief period before mining starts to extract artefacts of interest, or for the Department of Speculative Cosmology to alert House Ignis to a promising new site.
Perhaps stranger is the College's link with the law courts and the Maxim Club. While the College of Truth no doubt has some authority to speak on ethical philosophy, the Department of Applied Anthropology has successfully argued that it is better placed to advise on the practical process of lawmaking and legal arbitration, and counts many senior magistrates among its former faculty.
Notable Departments
The Department of Normative Jurisprudence studies the implicit and explicit social contracts which bind society together, in Ur and elsewhere. Its graduates often end up in the diplomatic service, or serving as clerks to the Council of the Orders. It is said that the Rook Parliament also recruits from this Department, but not loudly. The Department of Acantonic Vexillology tracks the ancestral heraldry of the city of Ur and maintains the all-important Armigers' Register, which speaks with absolute authority on which of the High Masks may use which heraldic devices, colours, and signs. The Department of Remunerative Antiquarianism specialises in recovering and studying the artefacts of bygone civilisations - some of which may not be quite as bygone as the department likes to claim. Still, the Briar Vitelli-Ignis Museum of Wonders in Queen's Park is an impressive and inspiring sight, which is the important thing. The Department of Numismatic Epigraphy is not particularly interesting. There is no reason to ask questions about the Department of Numismatic Epigraphy. If you must ask questions about the Department of Numismatic Epigraphy, please address them to the Council of the Orders.
