Black Powder
If the practice of Aspect Binding is the bleeding edge of transportation and power source technology, then Black Powder would been the bleeding edge of warfare technology. Black Powder is a combustible chemical compound that occurs naturally in nature, and for whatever reason, cannot be synthetically replicated. It has been applied for centuries to weapons knows as firearms in the Equikoran Land Bridge.
Utility
Black powder is used almost exclusively for the application of firearms in the Equikoran Land Bridge. There aren't very many recorded misuses.
Manufacturing
Black powder is pretty interesting in Unorrea. It is more a magical substance than a chemical compound as it is in earth. Something about the nature of Unorrea's plane doesn't cannot allow for the compound to be created synthetically. It only naturally occurs in the Contested Isles. There has been much speculation as to why this is, the current popular theory relating to the legend that the Contested Isles are actually the shattered remains of the Isle of Doom and that somehow the shattering of that island during the Last and Final Conflict with Maferath and the magical fallout that followed allowed it to happen. Either way, black powder is harvest from the islands in the Azure Sea and those islands alone. It appears in dust from rock slides and natural erosion, although the islanders have, in the past few decades, found a way of sythesizing erosion and rockslides and harvesting the powder instead of waiting for it to rise to the surface naturally. This is an extremely dangerous profession, but the black powder trade (both above and below the board) is a lucrative enough business that there is no shortage of willing workers.

Access & Availability
No-one outside of the Equikoran Land Bridge has access to black powder or the weapons made from it. In point of fact the Protectorate has an entire organization of marines and spies called La Casa de Seguridad para el Secreto del Protectorado (better known as The black Hunters) track down firearms and black powder that have been smuggled out of the Land Bridge. Once encounter, the Black Hunters neutralize the owners, the smugglers and anyone else involved in the transaction. Through the centuries the Black Hunters have been efficient enough that an incident of firearms or black powder smuggling has not been recorded in over 80 years.
Discovery
Black power was discovered on the Contested Isles of the Azure Sea by alchemist Domingo de Pallares of the Equikoran Land Bridge who thought the naturally occurring chemical compound could be used as an elixir for eternal life. He died, but his research was carried on by his assistant Diego de Talavera (hailed as the father of modern warfare) who discovered the explosive properties of the substance. Diego furthered the research by applying its properties first to cannons and then small firearms.
