Cannon

The Contested Isles of the Azure Sea are rich with natural resources, and they are the sole location of naturally concurring black powder, which for some reason cannot be created synthetically. These Islands are jealously defended by the Equikoran Land Bridge, and they have never been taken because the Hierarchy of the Land Bridge employs cannons on all of their naval a privateer vessels. No ship has been able to contend with a Land Bridger vessel successfully.

Utility

It is used to blow stuff up. 'Tis a cannon.
Parent Technologies
Inventor(s)
Diego de Talavera invented cannons first when exploring the possible applications of Black Powder.
Access & Availability
Cannons are found throughout the Equikoran Land Bridge in fortifications, on naval ships and sometimes in cannon batteries placed out on the open to cover and area with defensive artillery. Traditionally the weapons have been reserved for the Equikoran Military and those ships who have been provided a Letter of Marque by the Admiralty Board. However the technology is so widely available within the Azure Sea and the Land Bridge that the Admiralty board has found it hard to keep it out of the hands of ruffians and pirates.
Discovery
Diego de Talavera discovered cannons while researching the possible applications of Black Powder. One of the first of several hundred experiments involving the substance was whether or not the powder's explosive effects could move an object. He started with small items and gradually worked his way up to larger, heavier items inventing a measuring system for Black Powder in the process. Eventually he came to terms with the fact that, while black powder could be used to move objects, to move them rapidly it's explosive force would have to be both contained and focused. As a result, the first cannon was born.
