Aspect Binding

A long held proprietary secret of the Artificer's Collegium, Aspect Binding is one of the most forefront, bleeding edge technologies of the current age. While the exact process is unknown, it is common knowledge that Aspect Binding is achieved by binding the essence of an elemental from the Elemental Plane to a magically engraved item, usually some kind of engine or battery. The elemental's essence then acts as both a fuel and power source for the bonded item.

Manufacturing

The process by which an elemental is bound to, what has commonly been referred to as an aspect core, is proprietary knowledge that the Artificer's Collegium won't even share among other dwarves. Still, it is widely known that it is a magical process, by which the core is constructed from regular minerals and ores fused with orichalcum and layered with several dozen layers of runes and wards that work in harmony to both keep the creature trapped within it's housing while simultaneously drawing power from it and focusing that power into the machine which the core powers.
Inventor(s)
The art of Aspect Binding was invented by the dwarf Eznath Prinlalt who, as she tells it, discovered Aspect Binding more by accident than by actual design.
Access & Availability
Aspect binding is a secret known only to the Artificer's Collegium, patented and very legally enforced, not even maintenance and repairs can be performed by anyone other than a Collegium member...not legally anyways.
Discovery
Eznath Prinlalt discovered aspect binding actually while working for The Conclave Arcanus studying the elementals. She created a magical housing for an air elemental so that she could trap and study it, only to discover in the process that such an item, if constructed correctly, could be used as a power source for all kinds of machinery.
