High Priestess Sumisaki Hisae (a.k.a. 墨 緋冴)
Summary:
"Fox-witch". "Seductress". "Demoness". "Hannya". Sumisaki Hisae has been called all of these things and worse during her centuries-long existence. As an unscrupulous fox spirit, near-divine in her power, she has terrorized humans since nearly before history was put to record. Free of the shackles of empathy, she pursued pleasure in all manner of sin without regard to the chaos this caused. Wives and husbands across the continent learned to curse her name as synonymous with infidelity. All this came to an end when the Matsumoto Clan, descendants of the infamous Taira, solidified their hold on central Japan. Matsumoto Jigenzaemon personally hunted down many a troublesome Yōkai. Indeed, some say that the relative rarity of Kitsune can be traced back to the actions of this one man. Eventually, his crusade led him to cross paths with Hisae. The two battled to exhaustion, but eventually Jigenzaemon was caught by Hisae's charms, as so many had been before. She took him to her bedchamber, sure that she had him fully under her sway, but there the ancient lord of the Matsumoto conjured a sword from nowhere and struck at her in the heart of her power. As Hisae died, she was consumed by the height of ecstasy that intimate deathblow had inflicted upon her. Her soul was not picked up by a Kasha, however, but instead by Kashin Koji, meddlesome servant of Izanami-no-Mikoto. Hisae was granted a second life under the condition that she seduce more people into the death goddess' loving* grasp. This she accepted readily, and was restored to health, albeit at only a fraction of her former power. Now, though it has been many years and Matsumoto Jigenzaemon's descendants walk the earth, she still searches for him. The pin in her ear is a brutal reminder of the agony he caused her, and the desire entangled with it. When the pain becomes dull to her, she removes the pin and rams it into another patch of flesh, her supernatural regeneration hiding all the scars of this morbid ritual. What Hisae will do when she finds the man who killed her is unclear even to her. Certainly, she wants vengeance, but that dark desire is tinged with something else. Something primal, mixing pleasure and pain. The remaining Matsumoto should only pray that such a meeting never comes to pass.
