Summary
The daughter of famed explorer and visionary of the Dreamlands, Randolph Carter. Randi Carter was born in a dream, which grants her rather unique status. Dreamers cannot usually reproduce while dreaming, but Randi's existence is evidence to the contrary. Her mother's identity is unknown, but some speculate that it could even be one of the mysterious goddesses that live beyond Kadath. A far cry from her father's famous melancholic disposition, Randi Carter is possessed of a heroic, adventurous spirit that seemingly cannot be kept down. Even as a child she had experienced much of what the Dreamlands had to offer, and quickly separated from her father to have her own adventures. In all honesty, Randolph and Randi do not see eye to eye on many things, and it's a common sight to see the Elder Carter about Celephaïs wringing his hands with worry about what trouble his daughter has gotten herself into now. Though not as celebrated as her father, Randi has had several of her own adventures. She has visited Kadath, though not beyond, and spoken with the cats of Ulthar. She wishes to visit the Moon of the Dreamlands, but on this subject at least she's heeded Randolph's stern warnings. Always on the lookout for new challenges, her attention has recently turned to Earth. The stories her friend and mentor, Jericho Petalwing tells her of Japan have particularly captured her interest, and she would like nothing more than to enjoy the company of the legendary heroes that Petalwing so lauds in his tales. Fortunately, there happens to be an opening leading directly to Earth just south of Dylath-Leen. Difficult to access even for someone of her talents. Randolph Carter has warned Randi against it many times, afraid of what time in the mortal world might do to a natural Dreamer. Yet, it seems likely she won't be able to resist the temptation for long.
