They Jump High Myth in Tremanac | World Anvil

They Jump High

A children's song about a raid by giant insectoids on Chirin-on-Dimar.
They jump high, we duck low.
They'll grab all those who move too slow.
The attackers jumped right over the walls of east walls of Chirin, almost completely bypassing the Outer Guard. Only those who quickly sought cover in places too small for the attackers survived the intial rush.
Stonewall stands in the street.
Sword ready this foe to greet.
Stonewall did what he could to slow the advance of the attackers, blocking the way where he could, but the creatures were too fast for him to chase down. Even the dozens of attackers he managed to kill were not enough to stem the tide.
Boom, boom, crack-a-boom.
Bowin's spells will spell their doom.
The raiders were defeated by Bowin Gableson who blasted them apart with magic after they were lured into a square. This earned Bowin the title of First Citizen of Chirin.   Chirin Council made some efforts to suppress the teaching of the song from the year 222 after several of the figures in the song were deemed to be traitors to chirin. This hasn't done much to keep off the streets as children play games while singing some of the verses.

This started out as a teaching song to help children learn about the invasion without going into too much detail. However, some of the lines became a popular refrain during various games and the original message was mostly being ignored within a few decades.   Several actions usually accompany the words when it is being taught to children. They are encouraged to literally jump up and duck down at the right times, and make large circling motions with their arms when it reaches the refrain about Bowin's spells.
