Glassfolk

Fragile Folks

Glassfolk are a species of sentient beings made entirely out of glass. Most Glassfolk were humanoid, but occasionally some were made that resembled animals.

Biology

Glassfolk have no organs. The very glass itself is what is alive, and while they can form a heart or lungs to function like other beings, they do not need them to survive. As long as they are not fully broken, they can move and survive, eternally powered by the very magic used to create them.   While all Glassfolk were created with eyes and ears, they do not need them to perceive their surroundings, as they see from every inch of their bodies as long as it is not covered by something other than glass.

Glass Forms

Glassfolk can take on any shape. When created, they were made either to resemble humanoids or animals, but they have control over the glass in their bodies, as technically they have glass magic just like their creator that made them did.   Due to this, they can shift their bodies into any form they please, be it one resembling their original form or one far detached from it.

Fatally Cracked

Glassfolk do not age, nor do they contract diseases. They have no natural lifespan, as it is simply how long they can remain intact, which varies for every Glassfolk. Therefore, there is no way for them to die of natural causes. The only possible cause of death for a Glassfolk is to be shattered, or as it is called among Glassfolk, fatally cracked.

Reproduction

Glassfolk are capable of asexual reproduction, splitting themselves in a way similar to mitosis in cells, creating two distinct, sentient Glassfolk. Some scholars have hypothesized that the reason this is possible is because the Glassfolk are individual cells of the Glassman, and can function as such. The validity behind this theory has never been fully put to the test, but it does allign with all present information.   When split, the two new Glassfolk are (at the start) exact copies of the one that split apart, but both forge new identities as they continue to live.

Diet

Glassfolk do not eat. They cannot absorb any nutrients from food, and while some that live amongst humans or animals mimic the action in an attempt to appear more like those around them, it does nothing.   They can, however, consume glass. Inanimate glass, as well as other Glassfolk, can be absorbed by Glassfolk as sustenance. This can help to fix over any cracks or shattered pieces in the Glassfolk, or just make the Glassfolk larger and more durable.

Myths

Glassfolk are not believed to be real by most people in the world, and so the few stories of them are not believed by most to be true. However, there is evidence that they were real and that they do, still, exist out in the world.

Creation

In the mid 400s, a human criminal roamed Udai, coming into conflict with the hero Zork. This man was called the Glassman, but his real name was Freg Mammol.   The Glassfolk were his henchmen, soldiers that would aid him in his various battles and crimes. He would have them rob banks, roam cities, etc so that he was free from blame. However, they were eventually traced back to him, and he battled against Zork on numerous occasions.   Eventually, he was shattered in a battle against Zork, leaving behind many Glassfolk that now roamed, free of the chains of their creator.

Goonboss

The most prominent Glassfolk in history was the henchman of Glassman, a soldier that fought for their creator until they were captured by the Debt Collectors and converted to their side.   For a time, they simply were known as a nameless Glassman Goon, the head goon but still just a foot soldier for the Glassman.   Eventually, however, they would reclaim their identity, no longer infringing on Glassman's copyright nor territory and instead taking on their own identity as the Goonboss.   Goonboss would fight alongside the Debt Collectors, being one of the figures attributed with killing Thane Dorbo, Dwarven General of the Orange Phoenixes, as well as Echus Rhozire, the 54th Draconian Grand Wizard. After a battle against a figure known as Tanosh, however, Goonboss would vanish, with few knowing the truth of what happened to them. If they are still alive, there is no evidence to this, but the only evidence of death would be shattered glass, so it remains a mystery.   The travel they did around various locales would, however, be the reason that Glassfolk are remembered by some at all, as otherwise few would believe that there truly was a living creature made of glass. They were painted black and white so they could be seen better, but they could make themselves transparent at will.   Goonboss would be remembered as a hero alongside other Debt Collectors like Zork or Corporal Ironforge, even gaining a long-running comic series in the Abral Islands like they did.

Living Windows

As they can control their shape, there is a legend that many Glassfolk have hidden themselves as windows, glass doors, vials, or other inanimate objects made of glass. The reasoning for this is that it would mean they were safe to live as they pleased, able to act freely when not observed.   To many, this is more conspiracy theory than any believable story, but some do swear that it is the location of most remaining Glassfolk in Totania after the death of Glassman.
