Dieterra
Dieterra
Dieterra is the Moon Queen, the whisper of deeds taken in the twilight and with a questionable sense of honour. She is always seeking to protect Torthe and its people from evil, but she does so in strange ways. She is known as fickle, proud and distant to her worshippers, but is also known to develop sudden and strange fixations.
Like many of the gods, she has traces of prophecy about her, and astrologists tend to follow her celestial routes for guidance. She tends to appear as a glowing, silver-coloured wraith, with a trailing dress melting away to stars.
She has a special place in her heart for outcasts, and half-breeds, and alongside her sister, Nefferlasta, she considers all the creaturefolk as her people.
As with Nefferlasta, there are three sides to her personality, the Maiden, Mother and Crone. She also has temples to her darker sides – not that she is ever evil, but those who follow her protection when engaging in espionage, blackmail, prostitution or thievery.
Maiden:
Dieterra in her maiden form is a mischievous, flirtatious goddess and sacred to thieves, rogues, bards and most catfolk. She is known to take the form of cats, and there are many mythical tales of her escapades. She is beautiful in this form, but appears often as a tom-boy, and is also the goddess that people turn to when outcast. Those who are non-binary, gay or other in any way, tend to turn to Dieterra, and in her tom-boy form, she leads them to a life of freedom away from judgement. Little Lady Larceny is her common name in this form, but she has many others.
Mother:
Dieterra in her mother form is calmer, more formal, a true Moon Goddess of healing and peace. There is an element of haughtiness to her demeanour, and she believes that her motherly affection should be earned and maintained. She maintains, still, a deep affection for her people. Her temples both above and below the law are welcoming places for those without families, and she has a soft spot for orphans or those exiled from family or nation. Mother Moon, her worshippers name her, and she gathers to her all the lonely and lost of Torthe – but woe betide any who fail to give her the respect she deserves.
Crone:
Of Dieterra in her ancient form, much has been written, but even more remains unknown. Her temples tend to hide her worship, and most of the sacred rituals take place under heavy cloud, mist or under the new moons. She is the least pleasant of the trinity, and her dark visage is praised by assassins, traitors and turncloaks. Yet even at this darkest aspect, she still serves the great Balance, and it is said that those who pray to her Crone aspect, for protection, may find an assassin’s blade breaks at an opportune moment, or a traitor is unmasked. There is also another side, that of the doting grandmother, and though rare, this is the side that some can see. She can spoil her worshippers, slipping treats and surprises to her closest followers, against the advice of Mother Moon and Lady Larceny. Nanna Nightfall her followers name her, and they call upon her with care.
