History

Pirate crystal conflict

Laodice was part of the expedition that journeyed to the Diver's Grave to Stop Marjani Flintwill before she defeated the sea fury named Dashila and stole the Cloven Crystals. Although she typically resides in Tidewind Refuge, she was summoned by the queen of mermaids, Athena, for this special mission. Unlike many other mermaids, Laodice hails from the northern west seas but has called Tidezind home for as long as she can remember.   She was specifically summoned for her talents in magic, as her spells could greatly assist the expedition. Primarily a utility wizard rather than a combatant, Laodice thrived on the back lines where her skills proved invaluable.   It was her position on the back lines that ultimately saved her, sparing her from becoming one of the victims in the battle against the sea fury Dahsila and instead leading her to become one of the prisoners of Marjani Flintwill.   Imprisoned aboard the Opium, Marjani's vessel, she was tortured for information by Billy O'Sullivan, Marjani's quartermaster.   A pirate named Wellan had to help in the interrogation but preferred a less violent method to gather information about the military strategy of mermaids in case a cloven crystal was stolen. Laodice was forced to speak to save the other captured mermaids.   But used this opportunity to loosen her gag. Once the pirates were gone, she used her magic to escape and used an alter self spell to disguise herself as a sailor. When Wellan discovered her disappearance, he delayed disclosing this information to Marjani and tried to capture Laodice himself.   This bought him enough time for a private interview with the mermaid, as Laodice jumped him in an attempt to escape the kitchen in which she was hidden. The two talked, and Wellan agreed to help her escape, as he had no interest in harming or recapturing the mermaid.   With his help, Laodice managed to jump off the ship while Marjani tried to recognize the imposter among her crew members. Now free, she returned to Kelpheart to discuss with Athena, the mermaid queen.   Thanks to the information gathered by Laodice, the mermaid could send a ship from their new allies, Tana's empire, against the pirates' vessel, and Laodice was promoted as the queen's wizard.

Leader

After the release of Tromokratis and the devastation that followed, many merfolk fled to the Elemental Plane of Water to escape the destruction. But Laodice refused to run. Having already lost too much, she would not abandon the sea she knew, only to risk losing it all again. While the great sea civilization migrated away, Laodice gathered those who shared her resolve—merfolk unwilling to surrender their ancestral waters. In time, she joined Tidewind Refuge, a bastion for the forsaken and the steadfast. There, Laodice rose as the de facto leader of the merfolk who chose to remain, guiding them in forging a new life amid the ruins of the old.
