History

1100 AD   Gwen was a Kalashtar from the Henkis clan, a nomadic people living on boats that navigated the rivers of Toriel. When she came of age, she participated in the clan’s rite of passage to adulthood. The ritual involved her carrying a small cauldron as her friends and family added pieces of silver—rings, earrings, and trinkets—into it. At the heart of the ceremony, she placed the cauldron over a forge's fire, melting the silver to cast a unique ring symbolizing her passage into adulthood.   However, Gwen's ceremony was violently interrupted by a pirate raid. The attackers looted the clan, stealing their silver and valuables, and kidnapped several clan members, including Gwen.

Life Among Pirates

late 1100 AD to 1101 AD   Held captive aboard the pirate ship, Gwen endured starvation, dehydration, and grief. She had lost her clan, her friends, and the symbolic moment that marked her coming of age. The pirate captain, captivated by her beauty, forced her into his company, turning her from a prisoner into his unwilling muse. She was made to dine with him and spend her nights in his quarters.   During a violent thunderstorm, Gwen saw an opportunity to escape. She fought off her escort, kicking one of the guards before leaping overboard into the stormy sea. Sinking into the cold depths, Gwen thought her life was over. But when she awoke, she found herself breathing underwater in a bed of coral and stone. A nearby bowl of gillyweed and a friendly Triton revealed that a patrol had saved her and brought her to the underwater city of Coralia.

A New Life in Coralia

Late 1101 AD through 1104 AD   Grateful but lost, Gwen realized her clan had likely moved on, making reunion impossible. With nowhere else to go, she began working alongside the tritons, cultivating gillyweed, the plant that enabled her to breathe underwater. Over time, Gwen became a respected member of Coralia, but the desire for revenge burned within her.   Three years later, with the support of Morganyn, the leader of the tritons, Gwen led an assault on the pirates who had destroyed her life. The mission was successful, and Gwen exacted her revenge. Thankful for the tritons' aid, she knew her destiny lay above the waves. She seized the pirate ship, bidding farewell to the tritons as she embarked on a new journey.   Among the pirate of that first attack was a young shifter named Yrial Maranoss, he wasn't yet part of the crew years ago when Gwen was captured, and gwen decided to spare him. Yrial followed Gwen, and became the second in command of her ship along the years.

The Rise of the Pirate Queen

1104 AD through 1129 AD   Gwen began hunting pirates, uniting those willing to follow her and eliminating those who opposed her. Over time, she amassed a formidable fleet and declared herself the Pirate Queen. Her flotilla grew larger and more chaotic, with infighting becoming a constant issue. Gwen's focus shifted to maintaining control over her unruly forces while protecting the rivers of her clan and the seas of the tritons.   It was during this time that Gwen attracted the attention of Tromokratis, a powerful underwater entity. Tromokratis offered her the power to unite the pirates under her rule and transform her chaotic fleet into an unstoppable force. Seeking unity and control, Gwen accepted the offer, unknowingly straying further from her original ideals. In exchange for this power, Gwen had to seek and destroy three crystals called the Cloven Cystals.   In 110 AD, with Tromokratis' power, Gwen declared herself the Kraken Queen and solidified her rule over the Longstraw Pirates. She became a terror of the southern seas, her fleet spreading her influence far and wide. Yet, her quest for the Cloven Crystals revealed Tromokratis’ enmity toward the tritons who had saved her. This revelation shook Gwen's loyalty to Tromokratis, weakening her power.

Betrayal and Downfall

1129 AD   Weakened by her waning devotion to Tromokratis, Gwen became vulnerable. Her second-in-command, Yrial Maranoss, seized the opportunity to betray her. In a calculated move, he killed Gwen and claimed the title of Kraken King for himself.
