Caelestrasz Character in Toriel | World Anvil

Caelestrasz

"Do not forget the sacrifices we made on this day, dark elf. We have all suffered immensely at the hands of these giants."
Caelestrasz, an ancient Dragon and child of Alexstrasza, witnessed his mother's battle with Neltharion, where he fought to protect her but ultimately failed to defeat the Black dragon.   Later, during the Draco-Giant War, Caelestrasz, along with his cousin Merithra, was captured by giants and cursed to stay in the form of a drow, rendering him weak and powerless. Despite being freed after years of torment, the experience left him bitter and driven to regain his draconic power, leading him down a path of darkness and evil.

Characteristics

Physical featues

Two sharp eyes, as red as a dragon scale, pierce through the night, those belong to Calen, a drow of imposing stature, whose body is marked by centuries of imprisonment and torture, scares running on his face, arms, and chest telling the story of a tragic past. The gold of his collar and bracelet contrast with his leathery top as his hand hovers above the pummel of his long silvered scimitar.

History

Caelestrasz (Calen in his drow Elf shape) is an ancient dragon and a child of Alexstrasza.

The Battle of Life and Death

In the Highlanders Mountains, Alexstrasza confronted Neltharion. After several minutes of battle, Neltharion and Alexstrasza fell towards the ground, this event is said to be the cause of the formation of the Insatiable Lake, clutched in each other's claws. Alexstrasza, exhausted and gravely injured, was found laying on the ground in her humanoid form, while Neltharion fell out of sight beyond the crest of the mountain.   Calen who likewise took elven form, raced to his mother's side. Her voice wavered as she explained that the Earth Warder was dead. Like a phantom, the gigantic form of Neltharion rose up behind them. Calen exclaimed "he lives!" and the wounded Alexstrasza forced herself to sit up, stating that it was "impossible" for Neltharion to have survived the wounds she dealt him.   Neltharion set the ground at his feet aflame and glowered over the group. Calen moved to put himself between his mother and Neltharion, taking his true form again. But he was completely dwarfed by the Black dragon godly power. Realizing he stood no chance of defeating Neltharion, Calen darted back and forth, shooting fireballs, in an effort to distract him while Alexstrasza escaped. He later stated that this was a partial victory, as Neltharion was gravely wounded and would need to go into hiding to recuperate.

Draco-Giant War

The draco-giant war raged in the Wasted cliff, yet many dragons and Giants from distant regions refused to engage, deeming their involvement unnecessary in what they viewed as a trivial dispute over mere resources.   The situation of the war took a dramatic turn when two renowned dragons fell into the clutches of the giants. Caelestrasz, and Merithra, demi-gods and children of the dragon gods who had saved their kin on numerous occasions, were captured.   Both were cursed, and Calen suffered a Curse affecting his shape, forcing him to stay in the guise of a drow, weak and powerless for the rest of his day.   Prior to this event, Alexstrasza, and Ysera had abstained from involvement in the conflict, deeming it a wasteful expenditure of dragon lives. However, with their offspring abducted, they called upon their fellow dragons to join them in the fight. This pivotal moment shifted the balance of the war, drawing nearly all dragons into the fray, even prompting direct intervention from the dragon gods themselves.   After years of torture and suffering, he was freed by the end of the war. Now living freely, he is still stuck as a drow, and those long years of pain made him grow bitter and bitter, turning evil as he try to gain back more and more of his draconic power.
