Tundra of Cassus

Beware the Dancing Lights. Many who follow never return.
— Advice offered by Kraztanar, White Tiger Tribe leader.
A nearly barren tundra in the northernmost part of Septentrionalis. The major city, and only permanent city, is Etzak, where the native humans and drow congregate to trade. The rest of the tundra is dotted with tribes made of strictly drow, strictly human, or an equal mix of drow and humans. It is boarded on the southwest by the Letia River and the Vieroyss Woods, and on the southwest by the Obex Mountains.

Geography

  • The northern half has little to no plant life, but plants become increasingly common the further you go south.
  • A Sphinx burial ground exists in the exact midpoint of the tundra, and all tribes avoid the area.

Fauna & Flora

Fauna

  • White Wolves: incredibly abundant, hunted for their insulating fur, sometimes kept as pets.
  • White Tigers: live in packs called streaks of six to eight members and lead by a male-female pair. A tribe of drow has tamed them and use them as mounts.
  • Polar Bears: revered by the various tribes, usually not hunted.
  • Wolly Mammoths: Scarce due to over hunting by the Cassus tribes.
  • Rabbit
  • Elk: popular food source, main source of fur for the tents blankets and bedding.
  • Penguins
  • Seals: popular food source for those tribes who live near coastlines.
  • Orcas
  • White Fox: Common pet, often used as a hunting companion.
  • Beluga Whales: only found in the very northern latitudes, considered a delicacy considering how rare it is to catch one.
  • Humpback Whales: only here during the winter months when there is an abundance of krill in the water, hunted for food occasionally, considered a delicacy.
  • Hippocampus: Coloration of orcas humpbacks or belugas, or solid blue fur, thicker fur coats than their more equatorial counterparts.
