Kappa Carcia II Electromagnetics Research Center
A large research center structure built by the Tranal Nomads and Sulethis Republic on Kappa Carcia II to improve their technologies reliant on electromagnetism.
Kappa Carcia II has a very intense magnetic field and a lot of lightning. There are also wreckages of an unknown previous civilization, which has enabled the TN and SR to reverse-engineer the artifacts and improve the data obtained her. Therefore, the research center has contributed much useful knowledge despite the extreme dangers of the world.
The SR use it quite often to improve their railgun technology, primarily anyway. The TN use it for negative mass research and, using information gained here, has improved the energy efficiency of Negative Mass Reactors by about 0.9%, which doesn't sound like much but on the immense scale of the TN, adds up to a lot of energy. It is clear that research centers such as this will continue to be valuable in the future. The structure is also used for virtually all technologies reliant on electromagnetism, which is almost all of them.
The structure is powered by fusion reactors. However, the previous civilization has used all the hydrogen on the planet so the TN and SR must import hydrogen, probably from either star lifting the Kappa Carcia System's star or importing from other systems. This makes the research center a somewhat significant challenge to keep operational. If it was to shut down, all scientists are likely to be safe from the conditions as it is entirely sealed off with a dome and the atmosphere of the dome is of a very large volume and would remain breathable for years. The main problem in this situation is keeping the station supplied with food and water, ect.
The research center is very large, with a ground clearance of about 11 km2. Proportionally, its scale means it requires a lot of power to operate. The SR has used one side of the building itself as a railgun test range, firing railguns into the empty land in front of the structure. They have built a large barrier surrounding this area for safety.
