Lancea et Sanctum

More than any other Kindred, the "Sanctified," as they call themselves, embrace the theocracy of modern religions. In the neo-feudal political structure, vampires have made for themselves, the Lancea et Sanctum represents the Catholic Church, painting themselves as the moral authority for the whole world.

Members of this covenant acknowledge they have been cursed by God. But they also point out that unlike the Devil, they were not cast into Hell. Instead, they walk the modern nights with their free will intact. They were even blessed with special abilities including Disciplines, powers of the blood (such as healing and physical augmentation) and immortality. And, through the curse, they are forced to prey on God's children to survive.

Thus the Kindred of the Lancea et Sanctum conclude that they are to serve as object lessons to humanity; they are the price of sin. By preying on mortals they remind them that life is fleeting and nothing compares to the Heaven the worthy attain. To this end, the Sanctified zealously bear the weight of damnation as they revel in their monstrous nature, knowing that they are part of God's Great Plan. They see the Glory of Heaven as the ultimate carrot for humanity's salvation and themselves as the ultimate stick.

The Lancea et Sanctum in the Shadow Republic

Philadelphia was founded by Quakers and some of this Christian sect has influenced the Lancea et Sanctum. Less aggressively hounding sinners, the Lancea et Sanctum are generally more proselyting and less punishing for sin. The difference may appear negligible to outsiders, but where other sects of Lancea et Sanctum may revel in slaying sinners, the parish of the Shadow Republic under the leadership of Michelangelo Marchesi prefers fear and terror of the kine over outright murder.
Michelangelo Marchesi came to be the bishop in the wake of the Covenant War, a time where the Covenant acted to cleanse the community of heresy. He argued for peaceful co-existence with the other Covenants and a return to their Quaker roots as "Friends" of the lost.
Towards other Kindred, they take a teaching and guiding role, trying to guide them to their proper path and realization of their true nature.
The Shadow Republic Chapter is closely integrated with kine churches, controlling almost all the Christian and Jewish congregations of the city, using them as both servants in the daytime and blood dolls at night.
