Fiona Callahan

Fiona Callahan

Fiona Callahan is the current matriarch of the Callahan family. She is a mother, an aunt, a widow, and a friend to many in her community. Fiona has always been a free spirit at heart, with an artistic soul, but the tragedies in her life have tempered that into a quiet, yet confident, maturity.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

She was very fit in her youth and early adulthood. She still runs every second day, but is not as fit or toned as she had been in her past.

Special abilities

Fiona's magical powers are drawn from the fifth, and most elusive, element of Spirit, which governs and bestows all manner of psychic gifts.

Her primary power is Oneirokinesis, or dream manipulation. With this power, Fiona can manipulate not only her own dreams, but the dreams of others. She can enter the dreams of others to communicate, discover information (like a sleeping form of telepathy), and even to manipulate their dreams/nightmares to influence their waking lives and decisions.

Fiona's secondary power is dream walking. On the Dream Road, all physical and metaphysical barriers fall away, and time and space loses all meaning. Walking the Dream Road, Fiona is able to send her sleeping spirit to the past and future; to travel to anywhere in this and other dimensions or realms (a form of astral projection to travel deeply into her own prophetic dreams and subconscious mind; and even to travel beyond the veil into the spirit world.

Because Fiona's powers are dream based, it is a natural requirement that she be asleep to wield these powers. She has found over time that her powers work most effectively in a deep, natural sleep, unencumbered and unclouded by drugs or alcohol (however burning certain herbs while she sleeps can actually enhance her powers, but leaves her feeling groggy and weakened upon waking). While Fiona is dream walking, she will not awaken until her spirit returns to her body - no form of physical intervention or contact to her body will wake her (i.e. shaking, yelling, alarms, etc.). This leaves her physically vulnerable, for while on the Dream Road she would be completely unaware if her body were in any physical danger.

Apparel & Accessories

Fiona opts for comfortable, breathable, and flowing outfits. She is not one for dresses, and so most often wears linen and cotton pants, cotton tops, with flowing cardigans, kimonos, and robes. Her fingers are often laden with various crystal rings, and she always wears the bronze full moon pendant that has been passed down her family for generations.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born in 1960 and raised in Cape Otway by her mother and grandmother. Fiona takes her witch duties very seriously; she has spent much of her youth protecting Cape Otway from various supernatural threats, along with her sister, mother, and grandmother. In doing so, she developed a good standing relationship with the genii locorum of the area.
In 1983 she saved Jeremy Burke from a vampire, and the two began dating and were married at the lighthouse in 1984, their daughter Kaitlyn being born the following year. Jeremy was killed in 1995 by a newly turned vampire. Fiona located the nest and fed her power into 10 year old Kaitlyn so that she would have the strength to burn the nest to the ground and incinerate all the vampires.

Mental Trauma

The death of her husband, and her subsequent abuse of her own daughter's powers to enact revenge, has filled Fiona with regret and guilt, and left her with a deep fear and racist hatred of vampires.
Fiona also feels abandoned by her sister, who without warning travelled to the other side of the world to try to save the man she loved, based solely on a dream, leaving Fiona to raise her daughter. Because Fiona's power is dream walking, she felt she had no choice but to accept Cassidy's explanation, and to be good natured about having to raise Diana, but she felt abandoned, and taken advantage of.

Intellectual Characteristics

Fiona is smart, and usually thinks outside the box. She is patient, and always looks for some deeper truth in peoples' dealings with her.

Morality & Philosophy

Fiona is a very black and white person; good means good, evil means evil. There is no grey area for her, and she cannot grasp how other people see things in shades of grey.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Having spent her youth living up to her witch duties along with her sister, and with the help of her mother and grandmother, Fiona firmly believes in her family's raison d'être to act as peacekeepers of the supernatural world. However, having passed much of that torch on to her daughter Kaitlyn, Fiona now strives to be a pillar of support for her daughter, while letting her live her own life and make her own mistakes. The last thing Fiona wants is to become the stereotypical meddling mother.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Fiona is a talented artist, and one of the more popular teachers at Cape Otway State High School. She does, however, struggle with scientific and mathematical disciplines.
