On an atomic level, Kaitlyn can increase the kinetic energy of atoms, which results in making things hotter - this can range from slightly warm to scorching hot. Although fire and flames are a common by-product of this power (things bursting into flame due to their high temperature), thermokinesis does not initially cause fire; in fact, as Kaitlyn grows in strength and proficiency of this power, she will be able to increase an object's temperature to absolute heats without inciting flame. As a produce farmer, Kaitlyn has learned to use her thermokinetic power to create the optimum growing climate for her crops almost year-round, despite the near-freezing winds coming off the Bass Strait and Southern Ocean during winters.
Kaitlyn also manifests the secondary power of pyrokinesis. She is able to create, shape, and manipulate fire and flames. It is this power that Kaitlyn is most afraid of, because of her traumatic childhood experience of incinerating the vampire nest. Not only did she suffer sorcery sickness and nearly lose her magic altogether as a result, she also saw the potential for devastation and destruction from this power. As such, she is terribly averse to using this power, preferring to focus on the beneficial aspects of thermokinesis. However, this aversion means that Kaitlyn lacks control over her pyrokinesis, and so paradoxically is more dangerous than if she used the power and learned control.

Born in Cape Otway in 1985, she was raised practically as a sister to Diana. When she was 10 years old, her mother helped her to incinerate a nest of vampires that killed her father; this traumatised her and she suffered from sorcery sickness afterwards from using such a huge amount of power as a nascent witch.
She came out of the closet as a lesbian when she was 15 years old, and once magically set fire to the backpack of a homophobic girl who called her a dyke. When she graduated high school, Kaitlyn went on a road trip to Western Australia and met Maisie Henry on the Margaret River, where the two enjoyed a brief holiday fling. She returned from this road trip and completed a Bachelor of Agriculture at the University of Melbourne, after which she returned to the Callahan property and returned it to the farm that it had been some generations ago.
When she was 24, Maisie Henry was holidaying along the Great Ocean Road, and the two met again. They rekindled their romance, and Maisie decided to stay in Cape Otway. They got married at the lighthouse in 2011 when they were 26 years old.

When her father died, her mother Fiona was grief-driven to seek revenge. Because Fiona's powers were not conducive to combat, Fiona fueled her power into Kaitlyn, giving Kaitlyn the strength to conjure fire enough to completely incinerate the vampires' nest. Because this was so much magic for such a young witch to use, especially when she had not fully come into her own powers, Kaitlyn suffered from sorcery sickness, and nearly suffered a complete loss of her powers. Summoning that much fire also forced a child Kaitlyn to tap into a deep well of rage and grief. Ever since then, Kaitlyn has denied those angry aspects of herself, and has been frightened of her affinity with the element of fire.

Kaitlyn is a very practical and pragmatic woman. She does not like to deal with 'what ifs' or 'what could be's', preferring only to focus on what is. Contrarily, she does not lack vision, but rather focuses her vision to the realistically achievable.
