Logan was of course the first to reach the chest. He reached inside and pulled out a fist sized snow globe, and peered at the forest scene inside. A pulse of a magical energy was released and encompassed everybody except Halwich.
Day 1
The party stood on a forest road with no knowledge of how they got here. Extending to the horizon in both directions, either direction seemed as good as the other. Picking a direction at random they set off. A long while later the group came across a friendly halfling woman name Jenny Jiggings. Jenny has a few character querks which appeared to annoy the group, primarily that she moved incredibly slowly. She told the group of a village further along the road, and journeyed with the party. After several rage filled hours, the group decided to carry Jenny against her will. For some reason this involved tying her up. When they reached the village there was no sign of Jenny Jiggings, the adorable, Halling woman.
The group quickly found the Tavern and settled in for the night. The town was incredibly welcoming offering free food, board, and even companionship. Several half the party seemed to trust these intentions. Logan and Glenda took several villagers to their room for the evening...
Day 2
Exhausted, the group stands upon a forest road with no memory of how they got there. Their last memory was enjoying the hospitality of the village. Deciding to return to the village to see what is going gon, the group set off down the road. Near to the village the group comes across 10 zombies emerging from a grain field, and quickly dispatched them. Investigating the grain, it appeared to have a reddish tint and to be growing in blood soaked ground.
Day 3
The group stands upon a forest road with no memory of how they got there...
Confused, they return to the village and are told a number number of villagers are missing, though nobody appears to have an interest in where they have gone. When the group began investigating, they made a startling discovery. The villagers are all eyeless, with blackened skin and tentacles. Casting their thoughts through their memories, every villager they had seen in this place looked like that. Clearly some foul magic had been at play that befuddled their senses, to finally become clear now. Glenda and Logan had slept with these creatures.
Drawing their weapons the group slaughtered the beasts. They went from went from building to building, rooting the monstrosities out from their hiding places, and ending their threat for good.
Day 4
The group stands upon a forest road with no memory of how they got there...
Seeking answers one last time, and looking to end whatever beast had trapped them, the group headed towards the village. They found Jenny Jiggings tied to a tree, kneecapped and run through with a plank of wood. Logan cut her down, but realised his length of rope was missing, and her wounds matched Glenda's weapon.
As they approached the village they came across 10 corpses of villagers, cut down where they stood. Somebody had come across them in their grain fields and butchered them.
The village itself was a scene of nightmare. Many buildings still burned, and the rest were daubed in deranged writings writ in blood. Worse still, everywhere the group looked were the corpses of innocent villagers lay mutilated. Many of the men carried arms they clearly had no experience with and were massacred by a better trained foe. The womenfolk were cut down defending their children. Many died using their bodies as human shields to protect their offspring.
Taking the time to read the writings on the buildings, the group felt faint.
"Flesh so fine, so fine to tear, to gnash the skin; skin to strip, to plait, so nice to plait the strips, so nice, so red the drops that fall; blood so red, so red, so sweet; sweet screams, pretty screams, singing screams, scream your song, sing your screams..." It went on and on, madness writ large for all to see.
In their exhausted and vulnerable state the group did not see the monsters who performed these terrible acts until it was far too late. Abominable versions of themselves approach from the shadows and added yet more corpses to the tally on innocent dead they had reaped in this place.
