Session 05: Saxon Attack Report

General Summary

The players travelled to Weissen to stay the night. From there they travelled north on the road to Aachen. When doing so, they first encountered six Saxon Frydmen, and scared them off. They noticed that there were signs of settlements and farms being attacked. At one point they came across a rural church that was destroyed with the priest being crucified to it. They cut him down and covered him with cloth. Next the road started to widen and was an old Roman style road. From there they encountered a Frankish Guard Tower and spoke to the guards warning them of the six Saxon Frydmen to the south. All the while they were in sight of Aachen. From there they were able to get to Aachen.
In the city they were able to find temporary accommodation and eventually work. Some Counts they got a mission to raiding a hamlet, where they were to take out any Saxon troops and destroy an oak tree with a shrine to Woden in front of it. When doing so they managed to find a Saxon champion in one house and barn with ten Saxon warriors in it. They captured the champion after surprising him, who was taken out of the village by Athelstein (a Wood Elf Archer) who accompanied them. Fleec locked the door of the barn and Grimnas set it on fire. When Fleec went to the shrine opposite, Floki who had also accompanied them, killed a child who had witnessed the barn being dealt with. Fleec set the shrine on fire and grabbed a sword stuck in a tree. They left the village being pursued by three villagers angry at the destruction of their shrine. Grimnas and Fleec killed the three.
They took the champion back to the Counts at Aachen, and got paid, along with gaining two Ulfberht swords (one each).
