Cooper 96 is part of the Trident Coalition Space Fleet’s program for replenishing their ranks with cloned humans.
The Fleet’s cloning program pre-dates the Trident Coalition Marine Corps cloning program by a few weeks. 200 clones were created by a team of civilian scientists, hired to handle the program. Not realizing that it would create confusion, the scientists named nearly every clone the same as their Donor Brother, Cooper Durany, whose DNA template was used to create them. With them all carrying the same name they were numbered, to help tell them apart.
