Gavonar

The great volcano found in the southeastern region of the Demon Realm.

History

Gavonar has existed for as long as demonkind can recall - and is the only volcano still active in the realm, and the only one known by current demon civilization. It has long been known as the seat of Cegae, the God of Fire - notably, where he practices his drumming and dancing, causing the many small eruptions that constantly sound near the summit. This high level of activity long made demons avoid settling near the volcano, despite the fertile soil and natural volcanic protections leading to more docile vegetation than the rest of the realm.   It was king Foumae that finally founded the city of Scagesmaes near the base of the volcano after earning Cegae's favor during the Fractured Realm Ages, becoming his Beloved and lover. Their descendants, the Scafomae, still rule the city as its Petty Kings in the current age.   Foumae created a temple which would later become the Great Temple to Cegae on the side of the volcano, the city being built up around it. However, due to the risk of lava flows coming further down the volcano, the city was later relocated closer to the base than the temple.

Tourism

Devotees and priests of Cegae often come to visit the Great Temple of the Fire God and offer their praise to him. Cegae's preferred method of receiving praise is, of course, through dance and drumming - and many come to watch the performances of the supplicants and the local clergy.    Once a year, a great procession takes to the path between the city and the Temple - one of drummers and dancers accompanying a might feast, for Cegae is also the god of cooking. This is the Feast of Gratitiude - thanking the Fire God for not unleashing his wrath upon the city and Temple below.    There are also those who simply wish to see the power of the volcano for themselves, and none have left disappointed.
