Yssondreneth's Tomb
Yssondreneth's Tomb is the final resting place of the original black dragon, Yssondreneth. The tomb itself is, in fact, Yssondreneth's body and skeleton, buried under the earth and serving as the dungeon's foundations. It was created to hide the Gauntlet of the Black Dragon, a powerful magical artifact and one of the six pieces of the Armor of Tiamat.
Purpose / Function
While the tomb does serve as a resting place for the first Black Dragon, the dungeon's primary purpose is the guard the Gauntlet of the Black Dragon. The tomb is arranged in such a way so that only those with sufficient cunning and strength will be proven worthy to receive the great artifact.
Architecture
Yssondreneth's skeleton serves as the base structure for the tomb. At the top of her skeleton, in the skull, is the entryway, where supplicants meet the tomb's guardian Zala. There are further challenges located on both wings, along the spine, and in the heart chamber.
The Gauntlet of the Black Dragon lies at the bottom of the tomb, protected by the remains of the tail. This area can only be accessed by descending down one of the legs.
History
Yssondreneth's tomb was created thousands upon thousands of years ago to protect the Gauntlet of the Black Dragon.
Around 600 DR, the area surrounding the tomb was transformed into the Mere of Dead Men following the actions of a vindictive lich, though this may not have been random chance but instead due to the remains of the primordial black dragon being located underground.
In the early 1490's DR, the Cult of the Dragon was actively attempting to locate Yssondreneth's Tomb, as they were assembling the Armor of Tiamat to summon Tiamat from the Nine Hells. The tomb was instead found by the bullywug Pharblex Splattergoo, who hid it from the cult for leverage against them.
In Tarsakh of 1492, the adventuring party the Breadwinners, discovered the tomb and retrieved the Gauntlet of the Black Dragon, which fused to the arm of Mariana Goldfinch.
