Dunwater Den
The Dunwater Den was the temporary home of the Sunny Shore Tribe during their exile after losing their original home to Baroness Seklaz's sahuagin. The den also gave its name to the Dunwater Alliance, which was formed there.
Following the Battle of the Spire, the Sunny Shore Tribe abandoned the Dunwater Den to move back into their ancestral home.
Purpose / Function
The Dunwater Den was formed following the Sunny Shore Tribe's exile from the Javan River Spire, which had been taken over by a group of sahuagin. The Dunwater Den was established, first and foremost, to protect against any future attacks the sahuagin might launch. The Den contained three entrances, with only one by water, and all were heavily guarded.
Once it became clear that the sahuagin were unlikely to launch another attack immediately, the lizardfolk began developing the den to support decent living. These added amenities include a hatchery, rooms for their shamans, a throne room for Queen Proudscar, a prison, and more.
Architecture
From the outside, the Dunwater Den appeared to be a large dirt mound at the mouth of the Dunwater River. The walls of the den weree made of packed dirt initially and later reinforced with stone and wooden beams. The majority of the doors inside were wooden, save for two metal portculllis that could be used to split the den in half in the event of an attack.
History
In Alturiak of 1496, the Sunny Shore Tribe arrived at the mouth of the Dunwater River after losing their old home to sahuagin. The lizardfolk began constructing hastily assembled fortifications to protect against any further attacks. When no attack was forthcoming, the fortifications began to grow more fixed, as Queen Proudscar ordered the den to be turned into a temporary home. Over the next few months, the den grew more elaborate as the lizardfolk adapted to their new home.
By Kythorn of that year, the Sunny Shore Tribe had began making preparations in earnest to take the Javan River Spire back. Queen Proudscar gathered representatives from nearby Locathah, Merfolk, and Koalinth tribes. The lizardfolk were also contacted by Sanbalet's smuggling operation, which offered to supply them weapons. Unbeknownst to the lizardfolk, both Baroness Seklaz and Sanbalet were Banesmarked and being manipulated by S'gothgah to create conflict to feed the Feast of Corruption.
In early Eleasis of 1496, Necian Arrzen, Micah Pierce, Lyra. Reyna Moonflower, and Keyleth arrived at the Dunwater Den, believing the lizardfolk were gathering weapons to attack Saltmarsh. The adventurers killed one lizardfolk before they surrendered and were brought before Queen Proudscar and her minister, Worldseeker, who explained the true purpose of the weapons. Embarrassed by their false assumption, the adventurers convinced the Sunny Shore Tribe to let them and Saltmarsh join the Dunwater Alliance, as sahuagin threatened them all.
For the next two months, the lizardfolk, locathah, and merfolk planned extensively for the upcoming Battle of the Spire, which was set to be on the Autumn Solstice. The inclusion of Saltmarsh was a welcome addition but resulted in the departure of the koalinths from the alliance.
Following the successful Battle of the Spire, the Sunny Shore Tribe began moving their people back into the Javan River Spire, leaving a token force to defend the den. In Uktar of that year, a patrol of lizardfolk went missing after being killed by cultists of Myrkul. The B-Team and Oceanus dealt with the cultists, and the Sunny Shore Tribe finished moving out at the end of the month.
