Power Generation

The Windchaser is powered by a complex series of energy sources starting with the Arcane in the form of Mage Crystals as well as Elemental magic in the form of collected Elemental Cores. These two sources of power heat and keep stable the Phlodiston within the engine. The semi-gaseous material is superheated and piped up to the mithril sheet balloons through a series of pipes and balloon chambers. As the steam cools it collects into its former state and sinks to the bottom of the balloons where it is collected and funneled back into the Engine.

Phlogiston is the miracle substance driving most technology in Azeroth. Phlogiston is a gas collected from the air and distilled into vials of liquid phlogiston; Produced by phlogiston collectors, vials of liquid phlogiston contain a precise mixture of oil, water and phlogiston gas. Liquid phlogiston allows smaller boilers to burn at tremendous temperatures and pressures that enable portable tinker technology and gigantic vehicles to operate. Horde demolishers use a phlogiston-powered boiler to fling its projectiles.

Liquid phlogiston — odorless, weightless, and almost undetectable — makes steam technology practical by speeding combustion and increasing the heat produced by steam boilers. In addition to its application in technological devices, phlogiston has found use in elixirs that alter the imbiber’s abilities for a short time. Many technological devices use phlogiston as fuel.

Propulsion

The ship is thrust forward through the use of the directional winds caught among fin-sails and through combustion jet streams created by Phlogiston power. The thrust exhaust opening can also be directionally oriented to allow the ship to be easily tuned from the Helm along with the integration of the ship’s directional fins.

Weapons & Armament

Ballista and Scorpions

The Skyship lacks any room or true need for cannons. This is a transportation and living vessel rather than a ship of war. Still, it is not without defenses. Large wooden Ballista have been set up around the main deck of the ship. Their swivel design makes them the perfect tools gainst attackers even though they are bolted down to the deck. Smaller Scorpions have been placed on the Stern Deck to provide additional support. Though the Scorpions are smaller their metal construction provides even more powerful bites. Close at hand to all of these siege engines are giant bolts. Some wrapped in pitch soaked cloth, others inscribed with magic runes, and others attached to ropes that hook to the ship and are intended to harpoon enemies.

In all there are five different types of warheads that can be attached to the heads of the bolts.

  • Standard: Hard-hitting, designed to hit unarmored targets, and penetrate flesh and kill personnel able to penetrate several bodies at once but lack destructive force.
  • Explosive: (proto-type Phase One) Bolts with high explosive warheads attached these can either be set to detonate on impact or have a time delay fuse allowing them to penetrate hulls with low armor for internal damage. It's unsure how effective these are yet.
  • Armor Piercing: The warheads are designed to penetrate thick armor but lack destructive power after penetrating the target so must be aimed accurately at sensitive areas for maximum effect.
  • Flares: Flare tipped bolts fly for a set distance before exploding into a brilliant explosion of light that lingers in the air and then slowly descends. While good for illuminating enemies, it does little to no damage.

Armor and defense

The ship has a wide array of defenses but nothing terribly extensive. The bow of the ship is completely capped in metal that is designed to take an impact of any kind and distribute the force along the whole side of the ship rather than breaking the structure right away. The wood that was used to build the ship was also blessed and enchanted as it was put into place. A simple blessing that would protect it from harsh weather and give it strength against impacts. The whole ship was also blessed by Venzolo Shadowspark using Voodoo magics. It's unclear what his blessing might have done but there are times when something will happen aboard that one might point towards unseen spirits and ghosts.

Communication Tools & Systems

A complicated system of tube and chutes that goes to many parts of the ship can be used to carry one's voice to different parts of the ship or in some cases also carry written messages through the ship. The only way of communicating at distance with other vessels is flags and shouts.

Sensors

The Windchaser, as with most Horde or Alliance Vessels lacks bleeding edge sensory equipment some more advanced vessels employ. The vessel relies on lookouts, scouting wyverns, and magical sensory abilities of the crew are their best forms of sensing things at a distance.

Hangars & docked vessels

The Windchaser dedicates an entire deck to the maintenance and use of wyverns as beasts of war. The Windchaser has an enormous compliment of wyverns and riders and are the Windchasers primary means of attack and defense. Large hangar doors on either side of the vessel are able to launch all wyverns very quickly and once airborne their strike capability is long and dangerous to any enemies within flying range of the vessel.

    Phase 1: Preproduction
    Cultural event

This phase will consist mainly of creating the structures needed for the productions of materials needed for the skyship. First, a large number of clay bricks will be needed to be made then fired in earthen kilns to harden them. These bricks will then be used to build the large blast furnace and be used as base blocks on which the skyship hull will rest while it is in construction. The crane will also be built from one of the logs waiting to be lumbered and rope that has thus far been collected. The other logs will be used as firewood for the kilns. Venzolo will build a small phlogiston collector so that he can have some phlogiston for the preproduction process and begin building up some stores for the skyship itself. Though much more will be needed for the skyship for it to fly.

    Phase 2: Beginning Production
    Artistic creation

With the gathering of the first substantial amount of Mithril Ore production of the steel plates that will make up the Skyship’s first balloon will commence. The Mithril ore will be broken into gravel by members of the tribe then water sifted to make the ore purer. The mithril ore will be melted down in the blast furnace using charcoal made from the kilns as fuel. The blast furnace will melt the mithril ore and then it will come out near the bottom into square sand-cast on the ground where it will cool into a square sheet of mithril metal. Then it will be set aside to be tempered into shape later. Parts from the ship the tribe buys at the auction will be brought to the camp and stored for later. Extra wood from the superstructure of the ship will be used as fuel for the furnace.

    Phase 3: Full Production
    Artistic creation

The furnace and kilns will be going full tilt every day producing the metals sheets as fast as possible and then the finished metal sheets will be tempered and carefully bent into measurements meticulously made by Venzolo. With an influx of a large amount of wood nearly half will be set aside for fuel while the rest will begin to be cut and worked into the ribs and spine of the ship. Using iron from the Gelkis and some extra wood that was not used for kindling will be used to start making weapons, furniture, doors, windows, nails, hooks, winches, and other miscellaneous things that will be put into the ship.

Phase 4: Assembly Begins and Production Continues
    Technological achievement

The keel will be fully completed and the ship's ribs will begin to be put into place with the help of the crane. The woodworkers will continue as fast as they can and as soon as a new rib is done it will be raised into place. Production of the metal sheets will continue. Venzolo will begin to weld the metal sheets together and the metal balloons will start to take shape. He will also arrange with Kireena or Dursk engine parts that he can’t make himself to be bought in Orgrimmar and brought to Desloace.

    Phase 5: Finishing the Hull
    Technological achievement

With another influx of Wood and Mithril Ore, the furnace and wood crafters will go into overdrive working around the clock to produce the final materials needed to finish the project on time. All the ribs will have been put into place and the outer hull will begin to take shape along with the decks. The engine superstructure will be lifted into the vessel before the deck above is finished. Venzolo will begin to assemble the engine inside after that. The tribe's supply of Phlogiston will grow considerably and a storage area for it will be constructed.

Phase 6: Final Assembly and Finishing Touches
    Civil action

The decks and hull will be completed. Doors, furniture, weapons, and other things will be installed into the ship. The two mithril air balloons will be completed and the production of metal sheets will cease. The balloons will be tethered to the earth and filled with an air phlogiston mixture and the balloons will become slightly buoyant. They will then CAREFULLY be floated over the hull and the rigging of the ship will be installed attaching the balloons to the ship's superstructure. After this, the full ship will be tethered to the ground and the balloons will be filled fully. The ship will now be able to fly.
