The Federation of Free Peoples

"The official stance of the Federation on piracy is it is an illegal and frowned upon activity or lifestyle. Unofficially, piracy of Imperial territories is our people's greatest pastime."

Demography and Population

The people of the Federation pride themselves on their freedom. As such, it is hard to gather an accurate population count or demography. A sloppy estimate would be about 50 million people, though this is far from accurate, as people come and go.

Territories

The Federation lays claim to somewhere around 30 skylands, all fairly small. Most notable of these is The Great Sea Skyland. These skylands are all located fairly close to each other, located within the triangle formed by Kankos, Amora, and Ezai on the map.

Military

Though the Federation of Free Peoples doesn't have a legitimate army, if they are ever threatened or have need of one, the Privateers Council is formed, and the hundreds of Captains of pirate and privateer crews will band together, forming a formidable fleet of massive size. Only twice has the Privateers Council ever been called in the Federation's history: first during its conception, and once again near the end of The Necro War.

Technological Level

On par with the The United Empire; most of their technology is purchased or stolen from the Empire.

Foreign Relations

The Federation is on fairly rocky terms with the The United Empire, and always has been. The people of the Federation often engage in acts of piracy against the people of the Empire, though they deny it on any official capacity. This has often caused problems with the Empire, and the Imperial military often captures and convicts any members of the Free Folk, innocent or not, caught outside the bounds of their strict trading agreements, which allow the people of the Federation access to only a few select areas of Imperial territory, as pirates.

Trade & Transport

While trade licenses with the Empire have only recently opened (with strict rules enacted, on both ends), the Free Folk have been trading with distant skylands unaffiliated and with Kankos for years.

"If it ain't bolted down, take it."

Major Exports
The saltwater fish of the Great Sea Skyland are highly sought, and fisherman exporting their catches often make a hefty sum.
Major Imports
The Federation has very little need for imported goods, for one reason: piracy. It is common for a well-abled person to have been on at least one pirate raid in their lifetime, and not too uncommon for someone to be a fulltime member of a pirate or privateer crew. As the Free Folk tend only to pirate Imperial skies, they often bring in all sorts of goods and weaponry which get added to the trade cycle.
