The Skylands of Ormund
Age of Discovery, year 1495

Over a thousand years ago the Great Divide ripped hundreds of plots of land from the ground and thrust them into the sky, creating Ormund's Skylands. These skylands ranged from only a couple hundred feet in diameter, to well over a thousand miles in some cases. Skylands ripped from around the globe retained their original topography, geography, and climates.
A powerful magical barrier was cast over the entire globe, cutting the skylands off from below. This was known to the survivors of the Divide as the Great Barrier. Looming and impenetrable, the Barrier swallows anything that gets too close.
Over the years following, civilizations formed from the smorgasbord of surviving people and races spread across the skylands. For the longest time the reformation of society has kept these skylanders in the dark ages, cut off from the other skylands. Only in recent years have they emerged and begun exploring the skies...
