Malvo

Malvo (aka Prince Lairus) is the creation of Noah Summers.   Raised in the city of Contact, Malvo lived under the tutelage of Sir Hamilton the Con. As the guardian of many children, Sir Hamilton trained them in the art of the charlatan, tricking and outwitting both the law and the criminals of Contact. Malvo was not his best student, but he was the most infamous. In his youth, he seduced a lady visiting from the city of Armon and an elf from the Tower of Dakath at the same time. The scandal was great, so Sir Hamilton sent him west in hiding to the town of Amchester.   While there, he continued his cons when an assassin made an attempt at his life. He somehow overcame his assassin, killing him. By chance, the assassin was a half-elf. Thus, began his next con. He knew there was a hit on him, so he faked his death and put on the identity of the assassin.   The assassin worked for the Guild of Rogues, so Malvo faked his way into the organization. In order to avoid suspicion, he leaves that part of the country and flees south along the central vein to the city of Break. There, he avoided his responsibility as a would-be assassin that fellow hitmen were beginning to get suspicious. As the targets in Break was too challenging, he went north to the country of Tumult where there was a target for killing a doctor Caskajaro. Thinking that would be easy, he bumbled his way into a necromancer’s fortress.   His mission was obviously a failure, he ran from the place being chased by a bird monster thing the doctor summoned. While running, he ran into a strange green fellow of impressive strength named Dormammu. Both people fleeing something, they had a mutual agreement of sticking together for the time being. They fled north to the capital Felicity where he hoped to lose the creature in the massive city.   He did not lose the herald of Rot, but they did stumble upon a ranger named Kourend who helped them dispatch the demon. With no where else to go, they joined the gnome on his travels in town not knowing the trials this would put him through. The rogue scoundrel took part in the breaking of the curses of Felicity, the Dance Incident, the Frozen War and was tried for the killing of King Iscalon (though that was one murder he was not guilty of, ironically). Yet, while being dragged into the shenanigans of Lord Kourend and his friends, Malvo still made a name for himself not only in the group, but off on his own clandestine plots and plans. Malvo had much bigger plans brewing in his mind, higher aspirations to reach to. And they started in part while in prison at the Pit.   While in the Pit, Malvo sought to test something. During his time in Felicity, he came across the cult of Uz on several occasions and studied the plane a bit. So he tried communicating with one of that planes pantheon, namely the Lieutenant Vengeance. If he weren't already a murderer, this liaison would not have been possible, but Vengeance had the heart to listen to the assassin. He gave him power in exchange for the blood of the innocent, and Malvo used that power to escape the prison with his friends. A strange patronage had begun there, and Malvo began to think more of the gods since then.   The party travelled south after their escape to the Southern Farmlands (mainly Val'ul and Sistern's Lair), travelling on an airship they stole from their gith jailors. During this journey, Malvo stole a Tuthian marble from the paraclete of Tuth and killed an archmage of Val'ul, unbeknownst to his friends. To his friends he was simply a helpful sneaky archer with a surprising amount of coin. Malvo also met a good friend, Gojira, while in Val'ul, and urged him to join their travels. When news of prince Bedrich being lost in the lands of Doctor Caskajaro, Malvo was eager to go to the rescue seeing it as an opportunity to try for the hit again. He was also eager to leave the city as he had killed one of the political elite. But before leaving he made a visit with a friend he made, Lord Stormchapel, though he did not meet the archmage but did steal some blueprints he found at his mage tower. Malvo would not learn until months later that Lord Stormchapel was an Eternal Empire spy.   Malvo would aid in the freeing of Pinecone from the warlord's grasp, and descended into the Caskajaro's lair to free the prince. But the prince was not the same when they found him, as he seemed affected by some presence in the place. This did not stop them from letting the prince free, the prince who promptly went into another room to claim a Lantern of Sorrow hidden in the place, giving him access to the Mourning Lady and turning him into a lich. This was very concerning to Malvo, but he had a hit to finish before dealing with that.   During the battle against Caskajaro, Malvo found a portal opened to a hellish plane of existence in the doctor's library attended to by a librarian named Coldshore. Malvo, interested in the gods at this point, asks Neih if he would reward him for closing this portal. Neih, who hates uninvited powers coming from the lesser realms, agreed to aid. Malvo than threw the marble he stole into the portal, detonating it. This destroyed the portal and half of Caskajaro's castle. Malvo would have died also if Neih did not intervene. This action caught the eye of the cosmic tree. Malvo would later kill Caskajaro with the help of Vengeance, though the help was not too helpful, placing doubts on that relationship.   They returned to Felicity with the liberated prince Bedrich, but Malvo did not like where this was going. Thus, he started to sow the seeds of his next, and biggest, con. He was thoroughly convinced that Bedrich was no longer fit to rule, and set out to create a second option, one prince Lairus, as half-elf bastard of King Iscalon hidden away in Pinecone. Malvo was this bastard. He could not challenge the throne outright, but he began laying the groundworks, establishing a link with the Ambershard dwarves and Neih revival, and by causing a little mischief by pitting the Tumult military and Bedrich's new undead army against each other. The ruse did not take long to be dispelled, but there was some reputation damage done before the coronation. Malvo had a long road to go for the con to work, but the seed was planted.   Next Malvo went to Dusk, a city in the northern region of Tumult. It was far away from Felicity, so Malvo used the conflict there to be the grand entrance of king Lairus. With his kingly persona, he led the Tumult military to victory against the demons there, and was even able to make Lord Szereban, Bedrich's best friend, have doubts. Rumors of prince Lairus became widespread in the north, and there was a common sentiment among the people up there to whisper of him whenever Bedrich did something unsavory. Bedrich would mend this drama a bit with his marriage to Lady Mirabel, but the idea of a contender to the throne was cemented in that victory.   Unfortunately, Malvo had another task to complete before facing king Bedrich, the Seraph of Fall and his Dormant Cult. During the battle with the demons, Neih gifted Malvo and his allies a Hall of Seasons. With it, they had direct access to the four Seraphs. Malvo, surprisingly, bent the knee to the Seraph of Winter, to the chagrin of Vengeance, a deity he spent little time with those days. After the defeat of Asmodeus, Malvo, Gojira and Elias Meadowgrove went to Tel'ul to claim the city and use it to defend against the Dormant Advance. This did not end Malvo's plans against Bedrich, but did delay them for about a year or two. But things were prepped in Tumult, now was the time to build a force ready to challenge Bedrich.   Malvo would serve well in the Tel'ul defensive, making sure the political and elite of the city helped in the defense. He even made some great allies by doing what he could during the Fall of Val'ul, saving the Mirabels and helping Val'ulian refugees. He helped develop a brewing business, built walls and monuments in the city, negotiated trade and business, and was altogether a great politician during the year 1041. He had some slight run ins with the Persistent Winter worshippers and Eternal Empire, but they did not hinder his plans. When the battle came, the city stood fast, and the Dormant Advance was stopped. Moreso, when Fall himself intervened, Malvo was able to push the Seraph back with the help of his friends, a costly but glorious victory for the Veritian Leaf.   Now alone, Malvo continues his plans, using his influence over Tel'ul to fight against King Bedrich. For the next few decades, a cold war begins between the two men, one not knowing who the other even is. Eventually, the Gis Revenus Gojira would resurrect Gojira, returning his ally and friend to him, and both of them kept their offensive against the king of Tumult. This would culminate into a final battle in 1052 after a botched peace summit. Malvo would get the final blow on Bedrich, and with the death of Bedrich, King Lairus would get the throne (as Whitcomb was seen as too young and Lairus promised much to the nobility of Tumult for their support). Malvo would reign as King Lairus for the next fifty years.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Malvo is a high ranking assassin of the Guild of Rogues able to order hits and command personal. This was attained by completing several high ranking hits such as Doctor Caskajaro, the Lady of Dusk, and archmage Frostwind.

Family Ties

Malvo has one son, Kalethorn Nur, after a fling with an elven noble woman from Dakath named Neveah Nur. Though not entirely to blame, he fled that responsibility. He learned more of his son later during his time in Tel'ul, as they had contact with the fey city of Oriaphia where Kalethorn was competing in the trial of inheritance. That potential reconciliation between father and son though was marred by the interference of Vengeance, who used the opportunity to avenge himself upon Malvo. Kalethorn learned of who his father was by a little trap Vengeance set up, and though Malvo is attempting to mend that relationship, the first impression of his father being a murderer and a coward is hard to forget and forgive. And since Kalethorn became a warlock of Vengeance after that, the relationship was even harder to mend.

Religious Views

Malvo is a follower of Winter, though he is not a part of the Persistent. There are only a few such individuals on the Veritian Leaf, but after the victory at Tel'ul, a small order of the upper echelon of the city have followed Malvo's example. Thus, Winter worship had become like an elite club or sect in Tel'ul, a city that became very religious after the war, embracing Summer and Spring worship quite heavily (thanks to Elias and Gojira).
