Guild of Rogues

The Guild of Rogues is a clandestine group of assassins on the Veritian Leaf. It was founded during the Era of Kings. The guild carries out hits either for profit or for the safety of the guild. But it is mainly a business venture for criminals, with the assassins being more like private contractors than an actual brotherhood. There has yet to be any major political push back against the guilds activities as they are non-partisan. They will kill whoever depending on the pay. The adventurer Malvo is one of these assassins, hired by the group after killing a guild assassin who was after his head and assuming his identity.   Some famous hits they put out and succeeded in were the leader of the Neih's Breath entertainment troupe Tommy Drummer, the archmage Durlin Frostwind of Val'ul, the necromancer Doctor Caskajaro, and the Lady of Dusk. With this list alone, one could see the moral ambiguouty of the group, killing both good and evil.

Structure

The leader of the Guild of Rogues is simply called the Rogue. The one who holds that title is the one with the most successful hits under their belt after the previous leader died. The leader is the one who determines which contracts the guild takes. The only other rank in the guild, achieved after succeeding many hits (with difficulty taken into account), is the rank of Mentor. As a mentor, this assassins can petition their own hits to the guild with the appropriate reward attached to it. This favor within the guild allows the assassin to bypass the authority of the Rogue as long as they have the coin to pay for it. Some mentors have made profitable schemes with this rank.   A hit is divided into four categories: target's information (name, location), the reason for the hit, the desired method of death, and the difficulty of it for the assassins consideration.

Culture

This guild carries a very private culture, where the members rarely meet one another. The Rogue or his envoys are often the only members that the assassins ever meet. To bypass any counterfeit organizations, the guild uses these knives that mark the assassin with a scar which glows in the presence of other assassins. Only the Rogue can give the initial scar and only react to sanctioned kills, thus preventing copycats.

Public Agenda

They are a business and will move to wherever their services are needed.

History

While it arose in the Era of Kings, it was not founded in either of the key new kingdoms of that era (Dakath or Tumult). Rather, it popped up in the town of Armon. The city is known for birthing many crime syndicates that plagued the Veritian Leaf. Guild of Rogues was simply one of those upstarts. They survived over the years by never becoming too big or centralized. Estimates say that there are never more than one hundred assassins in the guild. This low personnel makes them somewhat unreliable. But they only ask for payment once the job is done, even though they only do the hit when they get around to it.
