The High Tower

"Let me tell you of rock of old
black and mighty in the nights of cold
red and golden in the light of day
wrought by oldest hands they say
let me tell you of blackened land
a sea of silver in the deadly sand"

- first stanza of the poem "tale of molten rock"

The high tower is one of the few buildings wholly built by the high spirits. It is built from the dark stone of the mountains behind it to the north. By skill and craft unknown to any mortal race its walls were polished so they reflect sun and moonlight as a golden or silver gleam and glow in the light of the rising and setting sun which soon earned it the name "torch of the gods"
The foundations of the tower lie within the living stone of the mountains and its highest level lies little less then six hundret feet over the ground. It is therefore the highest building on all the Land known to mortals and their marvel at it has never wholly ceased.
The year the spirits took their leave they sat up a councilĀ of all the seven mortal races at the high tower. Overlooking all the lands east, west and especially south the ones chosen for the council by the high spirits were to govern all the mortal races after the departure of the spirits.

Beeing called by the high spirits, the Chosen ones were the first mortals to lay eyes on the tower, leaving behing a mere rumour of the place wherever they had passed through on their journey. Soon other curious minds followed in their footsteps and thus the high tower was presented to mortal races.
Sitting on the southern slopes of the mountains north to the great desert it then quickly became an important oupost in the fight against the demons and a city began to flourish at its feet, the most magnificent ever to have been it is said.
In the building of the high tower, the high spirits laboured hard and long. And in the end it was a thing of great magnificence. But also it was a sign of parting for this was to be the spirits last work on the Land. Long now had they laboured among mortals and tought them a great many things. Now they deemed them ready to govern themselves. So the high spirits chose some among each race and by way of Vision they called them forth to the high tower.

No mortal before had laid eyes on it before for the land between the mountains and the desert had been empty for fear of the demons. Yet at the sight of the smooth and dark walls glittering in the bright sunlight the mortals rejoyced and bowed in awe to the work of the high spirits.
Long was the climb to the highest level of the tower where the Chosen Ones were greeted by the high spirits. There they received the gift of Sight, so they would be able to observe happenings in great distances. And there the high spirits laid the weight of responsibility on them, to guide the mortal races in their fight against the demons and to choose those hat would do the guiding after them. Then the Chosen Ones gazed afar in all directions save the north, where the cliffs of the mountains blocked their view, and their hearts were heavied by the task they saw before them. But they were strong in will and valiant and none refused the task.

And so the high spirits departed from the Land and were never seen again by mortal eyes.

Architecture

The high tower was built from the dark stone of the mountains it leans on, its foundation delved deep into the living rock itself. The surface of the outer walls are pure polished stone and shine silver in the light of the moon and orange in the light of the rising and setting sun.
Also this tower was build by high spirits and time will therefore have little effect on its walls and all within it.
