First assault of the demons

Military action

The first attacks of the demons on the city of the high tower is seen as the end of the Long Peace.
It was the first attack after years of peace and therefore the city was unprepared.
The demons attacked in the hours of night. Yet they did not reach even the outskirts of the city unnoticed.

For days the watchmen of the high tower had been uneasy and therefore kept a close watch even in the hours of night when only few guards walked the city walls. Thus the monsters were spotted just when they reached the first farms. The alarm was sounded and by the time the demons reached the southern side of the river, the guard had assembled. Already many of the farm houses shone bright with flames and the screams let the blood of many run cold.
The crossing of the river was a bloodbath that cost uncounted demons their lives. The water of the river ran red that night, refelcting the golden flames of the houses south of it. The arrows fell like rain on the many boats crossing the water. For in those days many boats lay on both sides of the river and now the demons made use of them. But their number was to great for the boats, to great to even be counted. So great, that the guards on the wall ran out of arrows even before the demons reached the northern side of the river.

The rest of the night was a horrible battle. Many men fell at the gates to the masses of enemies. Yet their sacrifice was not in vain. The gate stood strong and when the first rays of the sun came over the horizon the demons fled whence they had come
