In this year, after withstanding siege for more than three years, the high tower finally fell into the hands of the demons. As the city surrounding it before, it was razed and burned to the ground.
There were only few survivors of this attack that managed to flee into the mountains. Even less made it through them alive. Their story is told in the "tale of molten rock"

In the early days of this year, a great assault was taken upon the gates of the high tower. The city and most of its battlements had at this point already fallen into enemy hands. There was only a small guard remaining alive within the walls of the tower, awaiting promised reinforcements. But before those could pass the mountains, the final assault broke down the gates and most of the guard were slain. Of the members of the council few enough escaped into the mountains, even less reached the reinforcement troups or made it through the mountains otherwise.

This day was a great loss for all the races, for as long as the tower had stood strong, it had been a gleaming symbol of hope. From the highest platform those blessed with Sight could see far and wide and often a warning could be sent to other battle camps when an attack was at hand.
For it was a remnant of the days of the high spirits and was made strong by their magic. This tower broken ment by far more than loosing an important watchtower.
