Shemda
Shemda is a Ralcondrian water handler and one of the Eddy's Seekers-in-residence. Other than Istlourn, she is the Water Seeker you are least likely to meet if you visit. She prefers to associate only with other Seekers.
Mental characteristics
Education
She was observed at a young age to have good handling skills, and placed second in line for the Dancinglight role after her cousin Gorles. Then the real Dancinglight came to Ralcondray, and Gorles left with her. With Shemda's Trial of Life just five years away, Zimmira accelerated her training. Though not too pleased at her sudden promotion, Shemda accepted it as her duty and did her best to equal her mother's standards.
Failures & Embarrassments
During her fivespan's Trial of Life, Shemda fell for a man who only saw in her an opportunity to be the father of Ralcondray's future Dancinglight. Once their son was born he began seeking other partnerships. This isn't forbidden in Ralcondrian culture, but dissolving a marriage early requires a mutual agreement. Shemda did not even have knowledge of what he was doing, and when she found out she took Vanich with her to the Eddy without telling Grieg. The combination of betrayal and kidnapping tangled with the already contentious relationship between Ralcondray and the Allied Isles. For her part in delaying their agreement, Shemda has been barred from consideration for the rank of Sage.
Mental Trauma
The outcome of the negotiations require that Vanich alternate years between the Eddy and Ralcondray. Shemda feels cheated by this, considering it the theft of her son and a victory for Grieg. This resentment is the fuel for her desire to avoid any non-Seeker.
Social
Family Ties
Shemda is Zimmira's second child and first daughter, and Vanich's mother. She has avoided any other kind of personal relationships ever since her disastrously short marriage.

Shemda and I started out on bad terms and haven't really improved since. She opposes my project and my presence, but can't complain because the new Dancinglight--who happens to be my uncle--is in full support.
