Zimmira

Zimmira is a second-generation descendant of the Ralcondray speculation fleet thought lost at sea toward the end of the second Volcanic milennium.  She is the highest-ranking water handler of Vitgrud, and has taken the lead in efforts to establish trade connections with the Allied Isles.

Personal history

As Hulwif's oldest child, Zimmira was immersed in intensive water handler training from a young age. By rights she should have been in the same fivespan as her younger brother Ard, but Hulwif did not want to deprive Vitgrud of both its young water handlers at once, and placed her with the previous age group. During her Trial of Life, that put Zimmira in the position of being in charge of a cohort all older than herself. She successfully navigated it by openly acknowledging the awkwardness and taking a more friendly than brusque attitude, which she continued to employ to good effect when she became Dancinglight.   Zimmira's vision for the future of Vitgrud was dealt a severe blow when Alcendis came in search of remnants of the lost fleet, offering further instruction in water manipulation. Feeling insulted, Zimmira chased her off, not reckoning that her nephew and heir Gorles would follow her anyway. Zimmira then transferred the Dancinglight succession to her daughter Shemda, accelerating the young girl's training.   Eight years after Alcendis's visit, Gorles himself returned to present a similar offer of support. Convinced by his arguments, Zimmira finally swallowed her pride and traveled to the Eddy herself to undergo training and to represent Ralcondray to the Allied Isles.

Failures & Embarrassments

Zimmira's miscalculation regarding the Dancinglight had considerable consequences for the colony.  She was able to acknowledge the error when Gorles returned, but during that time many had died who would likely not have if Vitgrud had had the support of the Allied Isles.

Morality & Philosophy

Hulwif set a strict example as Dancinglight and as a mother, leading Zimmira to choose to treat people--especially her own children--with more warmth.

Social

Family Ties

Zimmira has four children from her second marriage, three of whom also are water handlers.
