Limosa (limo.sa)

"And here, you will see the great island of Kitlineq - and as we continue to the west and look south you can spot the city of Wamato on the island of Kojima. We are very proud of our Wamatoan reconstruction." - a priest of Tabarunai, guiding a bemused visitor through the sacred model of the Great Ring

Limosa is the largest of the Harafora Islands, and the center of worship of the god Tabarunai. It is located in the western part of the Harafora group, and many ships will stop at the port of Amelimpah before continuing west to the heart of the Mangimoi Archipelago, or east towards Kara. The island is known for having dozens of tiny villages along the coast and in the interior, each of which attempts to recreate life as it is lived in some location around the Great Ring. On the eastern coast of the island is the main temple of Tabarunai, where the priests have constructed a model of the Great Ring that spans a mile across, and is said to be exactly six thousand times smaller than the real thing. Visitors to Limosa from far away are often interrogated about the details of the places they have been, with the information used to keep the sacred model up to date.

Notable Spirits

The chief god of Limosa is Tabarunai, the lord of all the gods of the Harafora Islands. Tabarunai is a god of hospitality and knowledge, and has charged his priesthood with collecting as much information about the world as possible. As a consequence, the temple of Tabarunai has one of the most complete libraries of the languages and cultures of the islands, surpassing even the great libraries of Foxbridge College and the Gwāsa in these subjects.

Tabarunai frequently manifests as a physical entity, usually as a Pulawan man who strikes up conversations with visitors. Few who encounter him realize they have met the god himself, and only know that they had a pleasant chat with an extremely inquisitive and charismatic person. Whatever he learns is usually directly reflected in the library and in the model, and some people have theorized that these objects have become a part of the god's mind, and that they anchor knowledge so that his memories are less susceptible to distortion by the Egregoric Force than other Numina.

Geography

Limosa is a fairly flat island, with low-lying regions that are prone to flooding during the rainy season. The coasts are lined with mangrove swamps, while the interior is mostly tropical forest, with large populations of birds and animals. It has an elongated, irregular shape that stretches for seventy-five miles, with the width ranging from eighteen to twenty-five miles. Several streams and rivers crisscross the island, although some of these only appear during the wet times of year and dry up at other times.

I would love to visit the library there. I love the idea of a scale model of the Great Ring that gets updated regularly.

I like having major libraries; I will probably have to write an article about how they directly impact the Dream at some point. All those ideas…
