Errath
Errath is the name of the world of The March. The world is often referred to as "The March" by the people. The world is comprised of four known continents, Alkay , Helvenia , Somaj , and Xianshou , as well as many large islands.
Geography
The Western Continent - Alkay
The Western Continent was originally named Ali'akae, elvish for 'The Sunset lands'. The name was bastardized by Midland explorers into Alkay, but the continent is increasingly becoming synonymous with the Imperial Republic as more and more land falls under Addam's reach. While many Addamians would argue that their nation is the center of the world, there are many other nations on Errath, covering four known continents.
The Midlands - Helvenia
For centuries the nations of the Midlands thought of themselves as the center of society in The March. It was here that the Empire of Hellenia arose to begin its expansion across the world, and here that it fell apart, dividing into many nations. It was here that the dragons joined began to work with many fo the human noble families, stepping into the political games.
The North - Stroykost
While technically part of the Midlands continent, the vast nation of Stroykost had always been held separate from the other Midlands nations. Bordering the north of Helgest, the land of Stroykost extends north, spreading as it does to take in nearly the entire arctic of Errath.
The Southern Continent - Somaj
The southern continent of Somaj holds some of the most ancient civilizations known in the world of the March. Sitting on the southern shores of the Merkessi Sea, Northern Somaj has been a center for trade among the world's civilizations since they first arose. To the rest of the world it is known as the home of crafty merchants, ancient cultures, exotic magic and mysterious dangers. To the those who live there it is all these things and more.
The Eastern Continent - Xianshou
The easternmost continent of The March, Xianshou is an ancient land, home to the longest continuous kingdom in the world, the Xian empire. Xianshou is a giant landmass mostly located in the northern hemisphere of Errath, and nearly any environment imaginable can be found there. The people of Xianshou have been connected by trade routes to both The Midlands and Somaj for thousands of years though often the Xian empire and other nations have remained culturally closed off.
The Oceans
Between the Western Continent and the Midlands lies the great expanse of the Ahventiel Ocean. The seemingly endless ways are now regularly traveled by navies and merchant ships, and the known islands are seeing continuing colonization. The Capestre Islands see the most ships, a long chain that runs north of Katiress and forming a handy chain between the other continents. But the open waters of the Ahventiel hide an entirely separate world. For centuries the underwater nations were rumors or at best distant concerns to the surface world. But now the Dragon Wars have forced them to open up to the outside.
East of Xianshou lies the Hinode Ocean, a seemingly endless sea that is traversed by sailors from Retto and a few other nations. Throughout the ocean are scattered islands, atolls, and archipelagos that are home to exotic creatures and different cultures of sentient life. The Hinode is beginning to be targeted by explorers looking for new discoveries and, some theorize, an eastern passage to the Western Continent.
Between the Midlands and Xian lies the Xuanwo, a forbidding sea that most don't sail if they can help it. Home to merrow, sahuagin, and darker creatures; the sea is normally wracked by fierce storms. No mer nations are found here, but some think the merrow are twisted forms of the mer who once called it home. A safer passages can be found in the arctic region, where a sea passage from Xian to Stroykost is possible if a captain can evade the ice.
To the south is the Mayar Ocean lying between Somaj and Rahasaya and southern Xianshou. The trade routes to the eastern lands normally go through these waters. An array of strange creatures can be found here, including some of the more legendary sea creatures, as well as two mer nations. Strange magics can be found in these waters, and the ocean is also known as the Sea of Illusions.
